$1,995 for the Abarth black stripe !!

well, this Car & driver review revealed the cost of the stripe...

The test car featured the optional ($1995), hand-painted (!) matte black hood and trunklid to give it more of a competition vibe, though it does inspire questions about how to wax the car.

I really liked the stripe, it looked so much meaner to me than a regular solid painted car... but not for $2K

I was wondering what was going on with the matte hood/trunk as it wasn't showing on the website. I'm sort of on the fence on it. $2,000 just screams for a wrap even if you're sure you want it.

Good gouge, Axel.

I'm glad its an option, albeit (too) pricy. I didn't like it, but thats just me. It does make the car look more aggressive, but less like the classic little Italian sports car it evolved from. Again, that just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions... ;-)

I agree that $1995 for the black out paint is just too much. I won't be selecting that option.

Wow 2k is a bit much unless it was real paint.

I'm sure it could be wrapped for less than that if you decided you really wanted it.

Even if it was real paint, you could get that done for 500$ ish ? Possible $250 to wrap it. There's no way I will be paying $2k for that. It's definitely something I want, but I will be getting that done myself.

Good. Now I can omit that option, and pay someone $250 to wrap it.

This solves two problems:

-- Waxing/polishing the matte black area
-- The strip of paint between the trunk/decklid and rear bulkhead (behind the seats) will now be matte black (as it should be).

Still, the as-tested price of $38K is absurd. Like, BANANAS. I know Italian flair has a price penalty, but 8K dearer than a comparable Miata for (initially) slower performance is a bit... silly.

Throwing the wrap on it does come with many benefits most definitely. You're also open to changing the colours, taking it off eventually, etc.

You could even wrap it yourself with a friend and save even more. Plus there's a lot of tutorials out there that show you how to do it, it's just a matter of putting in the time and effort to have it done.

What a major slap in the face...FCA repeatedly said that the cars will have a no cost option for the black painted center stripe.
