"stuffed" 1446 turbo?

I've seen several references on the forum to a stuffed turbo which appears to be our stock turbo with a bigger fan blade inside. Supposedly, it is a direct replacement with no modifications? Can this be put on a "stock" motor or does it need other mods? Does it really do anything? Anybody have experience with it.

EC Phase 1 Tune
AutoRicambi Resonated Exhaust
AFE Pro5R drop in air filter

You could indeed install it onto a stock motor but it would be best utilized with a tune and supporting mods.

Heritage stripe; Recaro seats; Stage 1+ Tork Tune with WOT & pops & gurgles, LC; Multiair Spring Upgrade; Auto Ricambi Axle-back exhaust; GFB DV+; Forge adapter; st-xta-coil-over-assemblies; Eibach front & rear sway bars; Auto Ricambi strut top brace; Wilwood brakes; Enkei TS10 17X8; Nitto NT05 235/40R17's; Euro red trim; Vent mounted boost gauge;

It would not really do anything that much useful without a supporting tune

on the stuff turbo prob a tune is more important than anything else

I agree with @klikai the stuffed turbo really benefits with a full tune.
In the case of my mini when i installed my larger turbo it ran alright but since the boost threshold is higher the computer thinks the turbo is going bad and triggers CEL's if you arent careful.
You have to coax it into boost then you are off. After the tune though it has stock drivability off boost and utilizes the bigger turbos higher flow in the top end.
Also usually the big turbo is something you build upto with supporting mods so you can get the most out of it while still keeping the engine in safe parameters.
Most people start with Intake, Exhaust, Tune, Intercooler, ECT. all of which support the larger turbo in the future.

It seems for many the future is now. Only one small piece missing...

I think a stuffed turbo will pair very nicely with the GWR exhaust and SportCat, and a tune.

I have GWRs new sport cat and full exhaust and can tell you that the difference in spool time on the stuffed turbo is noticeable.

It's very noticeable on the stock turbo, too.

Sooo, you have the EC turbo??? Care to share??? You are likely the only 124 owner that has it, so far, we'd love to hear about it.

only? wow, I had no idea. I think I remember Chris telling me I was #4 of the first batch. Just figured I was an early adopter. There is a noticeable difference in power but nothing crazy. I'm sure it'll be significant when phase 3 comes out. Here's my list of mods so far:

EC Phase 2
EC stuffed turbo
EC intercooler
EC catch can
4C coils from EC
EC v4 intake
GFB DV+ blow off valve
full GoodWin exhaust with sport cat
turbo blanket

also lowered with 500 Madness springs and decagram rims on 235's

Cam, Forge BOV and E85 injectors were ordered yesterday and go in on the 29th.
