So carplay is working well in my 124. Used mazda firmware and got the parts from a mazda dealer. Just waiting for a new Serial TTL adapter as mine is bust before putting it back together.
Upgraded to Eu 70.00.100 and the tweak works well now. However, it also causes a black screen that lasts about 15 seconds after the boot logo has been displayed. Not the end of the world but slightly annoying. @ameridan is there a simple way to uninstall your logo tweak just so I can check if the black screen goes way?

Will let @ameridan respond to the uninstall query, but I can say that I don't see a 15 second black screen on mine, albeit I am on the NA .100 firmware
So I restored the firmware and ran a backup. My firmware resource file contents is attached.
It looks like a trans logo is expected.
@ameridan Fixed the black screen by removing lines 173 and 174 (rm -f /jci/resources/TranLogo.ivf
rm -f /jci/resources/TranLogo.ivf.org) from the tweaks file.
So TranLogo comes with EU v70, but not NA v70. I guess I'll revert the tweak to not delete that file. Thanks magee. Any chance you can post the newlooplogo.ivf? (Just change the extension to .txt)
Got the file but it's above the forum size limit. PM me your email and il send it over.
Its identical to the looplogo but with a little loading animation at the bottom. Only appears after a full reboot. Guess it be good to change that for the FIAT logo too.
Thanks for all the effort you put into this! Love the blog BTW
So @rsmagee, what was the prodedure for reinstalling v70 firmware? Did you only copy the Reinstallation UP file, or did you copy the Failsafe UP file as well? If Fiat ever comes out with v70 firmware, your experience will be the same in installing that, as well.
Your new tweak worked perfectly. Reboot screen is now FIAT and there is no black screen.
To resintall the firmware (done it 3-4 times) I run both failsafe and reinstallation as if I was doing a full upgrade. Dont know if failsafe is needed but as it works il stick to doing it.
It resets all the tweaks ect but intrestingly dosnt mess with settings ect.
Hi friends! Sorry for my bad English... :crying:
I would like to thanks @ameridan@rsmagee@TheSalamander and all those who wrote their advice in this post. Last week I installed the 70.100 EU software on my 124 Abarth. I reinstalled the Abarth animation. I recovered space by uninstalling the stock navigator.
Today I'm going to an Italian Mazda service center where I had ordered the carplay adapter for the MX-5 and they installed it for 260 euros.. All works "like a charm"... :nerd:
for anyone holding out hope we might see a firmware update: Fiat doesn't care. I spoke with a product specialist at CES and asked if they were going to give us an update for Carplay/Google Drive. She said no, then "not happening," then "no way". She didn't even want to discuss it, only other FCA autos.
The stock maps seem a whole lot less useless when you don’t have cell signal...something that happens pretty frequently when hunting down obscure but sublime driving roads in the mountains.
Both Waze and Apple Maps download all the necessary maps at the beginning of the navigation. If the cellular network goes offline during the route, the same works correctly until destination, even offline
Yeah - the problem is I usually get myself lost somewhere in the back of beyond and then have to hit "take me home", rather than following a predefined route.
If someone with CarPlay is willing to experiment a little, I have a theory to try out. I have a tweak that uninstalls the main compressed file for the Navigation program, and I started thinking today… If the /jci/nng/jci-linux_imx6_volans-release file from our Fiat firmware was substituted for the Mazda one that the tweak deleted, would the Navigation start working? I don’t know if the VIN checking is built into that compressed file or not. I’ll make my file available to someone trying this out, if you haven’t got your jci backup files.
I really need to do this...the on board navigation is crap. Could be the fact that I'm on an island and all I need to do is turn left and eventually I end up back where I started.
The only thing keeping me from tearing into it is....I need a Blog from @ameridan spelling out the 1.2.3 and A.B.C steps instead of sorting through the thread finding the info I need...instead of...head scratch..."now where did I see the next step?"
perhaps I'm just missing the right link to take me to where its all laid out?

So tried installing the Fiat nav software. Now stuck on this screen. CMU hasn’t crashed and can go back. Trying to think of anything that might be causing issues.
Wow, that is actually encouraging. If I'm not mistaken, prior to this trial, you just get the compass screen, right? I wonder if copying over the entire jci/nng folder from a Fiat might be better...
Yep, previously it would refuse to move past compass screen. Maybe it is passing VIN check but something else is causing the crash? Let me know if you have any scripts you want me to try
It's not really a crash, it just isn't advancing into the map display. Can you try a reboot by simply pushing both the Commander Mute + Nav buttons for 10 seconds? And by simply removing the SD card, you should be back to normal.
Yeah it’s not a crash. I can just press home and carry on as normal. Should have said it gets stuck trying to load the maps. Lost my backup of Fiat firmware, but if you can supply the files il try them out.
So I've just finished installing the firmware in preparation (hardware arrived today, will get installed on Saturday). Whilst re-installing AOI-Tweaks I noticed CarPlay and Android Auto are both listed as audio sources when doing the audio source re-order tweak so I wonder if that's how you access it.
That's how it's worked on every car I've ever tried CarPlay in (and I rent cars pretty much every other week - so I've tried a few). You can also activate Siri by pressing and holding the white 'home' button on the CarPlay screen.
Do you mean so you can do 'hey Siri'? It usually does work like that in most cars. Once activated Siri will definitely be listening through the car mic. Siri effectively replaces the in-build voice activation system when CarPlay is active.
As I mentioned in my post above, install of the version 70 firmware went smoothly. I was on the 56 firmware previously so was able to install the ID7 patch beforehand. Both @ameridan's and the 'official' Mazda AIO tweaks ran with no issue following the upgrade. Sweet. @ameridan - thanks so much for all your work on the tweaks. I just finished replacing all the Mazda branding with Abarth animations and backgrounds. I think its time to donate you another cup of coffee.
Hardware arrived today so that'll go in this weekend. I'm writing a guide as I go here so should have that ready for you all next week. It's really just collating all the information out there in to a single place.
Look forward to the write up. Truly appreciate the efforts by all.
Aloha mike
