$1,995 for the Abarth black stripe !!

well, this Car & driver review revealed the cost of the stripe...

The test car featured the optional ($1995), hand-painted (!) matte black hood and trunklid to give it more of a competition vibe, though it does inspire questions about how to wax the car.

I really liked the stripe, it looked so much meaner to me than a regular solid painted car... but not for $2K

I wonder how many Abarths will be shipped with the black, take it or leave it (the car).

I think it looks best on the white and silver but doesn't add much cache to the red. A red lip at the bottom of the front fascia would be embellishment enough for my tastes.

I won't be ordering it, instead putting about half that amount towards the Brembos.
what's the significance of the black parts? As someone else mentioned, it just looks like they like new parts were installed after a wreck and were waiting to be painted.

Wrap definitely the way to go. Looking at the abarth options, the only thing I absolutely would like would be the recaro seats.
i believe the stripe will add value down the road. it also is appealing too me, directly. much more so than any kind of vinyl, aftermarket paint, or sticker could ever be.

funny though, the seats are an option i will be skipping in favor of the red and black sport seats.

admittedly, however, both the seats and the stripe are overpriced.
Just set up an appointment to get my Classica vinyl'd. Base vinyl would run $800, Autoflex(Chemical and Fuel resistant) vinyl is going to run me $1600.

I didn't realize vinyl cost that much. Having a decent body shop apply the paint might be the best option. Since no body work is required, it's probably not going to be too expensive.

We actually installed "the stripe" on our car before taking to Fiat Freak Out a few weeks ago. And it was noticed by one of the directors of FCA who was curious about how we applied it. As it turns out the Fiat Abarth stripe is painted on because the vinyl that Fiat tried did not hold up to extreme heat.

I'm curious about Fiat's experiment. Does the Spider engine bay produce more heat than other cars? Hood wraps are rather common these days.

BTW, I love the red accents on your car. Very classy.
The little 1446 turbo gets really hot, I suspect the problem area is right above it.

I like your car Ramzi :)

Greg,

It would not be 1/2 a fun if not for you! I was talking to Brett today.... If this car had the stock 165HP while I was driving it to Fiat Freak Out it to Detroit, I might have just left it there.... But at 200+ HP it was a blast.... Top down on the back road of Ohio with the radio on.... That is good stuff!

Actually not. It was along the edges.

Our car uses the newest 3M product available for "Abarth stripe". We currently has 3700 miles on it.... many in 100+ degree Texas heat and so far we are looking good. However time will tell.

To be honest, I was against the red accents on the drawing board. But after seeing them in person - I admit I was wrong. It really works well on a black car.... Thank you for Brett Melancon for that!

And not to change the subject. Please consider Benson Fiat if you're thinking about a Fiat or Alfa. They are committed to the brand!

Hmm, that's interesting.

The Abarth Spiders in the 1970s (124 Spider Rally, also referred to as 124 Spider Abarth Stradale) had matt black hood and trunklid.

For those who don't know, Vandor is probably the world's leading expert on the classic Fiat 124, it's pretty cool that we have him here.
