Add your location to the map!

I started a map before that shows where people are traveling from but it had a limit of points. I decided to build one in Google Maps that is unlimited. Please update your point of origin. You can even add a photo of your car and customize the point icon if you wish.

Click here to add to the map.

My wife and I will be attending for the first time. Her birthday is May 3rd and I somehow convinced her this would be a great birthday present!

Spring FIAT on the Dragon Itinerary - subject to change

FIAT on the Dragon • Alfa Romeo on the Dragon
Welcome back to the Dragon! This year we’re going to have more options and more roads than ever
before. We’ll even have options for folks who may not want to do a drive as much. This FIAT family
(including our Alfa cousins) weekend will feature organized, family‐friendly driving and scenic events,
both at the host hotel and throughout the area. Activities include spirited and casual sightseeing drives,
an organized meal, bonfires, social times at Talley Ho’s big field and parking lot, vendor booths, tech times,
raffle prizes, and of course lots of FIATs and Alfa Romeos! There is no better way to have fun with your
FIAT or Alfa Romeo! We have even invited our French car cousins to join the fun for the first ever Cars
on the Field event.

Our featured Alfa Romeo this year will be the amazing Alfa Romeo SZ from the Lane Motor Museum.
This Alfa will be on display and participate in some of the drives all weekend, don’t miss it!

Be sure to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win some great prizes!
Maps and prizes will be provided for the weekend of fun.

Optional shorter drives will be available on‐your‐own with maps provided.

6:00am New Foothills Loop Sunrise Drive - Short Trip
Arise bright and early to do this sunrise drive. This drive will cover the new Foothills
Parkway extension for great scenic opportunities. Our sunrise group will be lead by the
amazing Alfa Romeo SZ to the top of the mountain overlooking the Townsend valley for
a sunrise. This is a short drive and is a great option for classic cars, very scenic! Maps
and suggestions will be provided. Optional picnic lunch available.

9:00am Townsend to Hot Springs via the Scorpione - Saturday only!
Not for the faint at heart…this drive is long and covers one of the best roads in the
area, the Scorpione. This drive will last 6-7 hours and stop for lunch in Hot Springs, NC.
We will need at least 10 cars for this drive to happen and is limited to 20 cars.

9:15am Devil's Triangle - Prison Food for Lunch!
The Devil’s Triangle…famous for many things and one of the most challenging, twisty
roads around. Weather permitting, this drive will leave the Talley Ho Inn and drive to the
beginning of the Devil’s Triangle and meet at the famous Brushy Mountain Prison for
lunch. The return trip will be optional to retrace the triangle or take a shorter route back
to Townsend.

9:30am Dragon/Cherohala run - Hillclimb optional
This drive is longer and includes the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala. The drive will
offer a couple of optional side stops such as the hillclimb run and the Bald River Falls.
This run will leave the Talley Ho Inn to Deal’s Gap. Then the group will continue on to
Tellico Plains for lunch on your own (box lunch available). This drive will happen Friday
and Saturday.

9:45am FIAT on the Dragon Drive - Fontana & Dragon loop
This drive is why we all came to FIAT on the Dragon. The traditional Tail of the Dragon
run will leave the Talley Ho Inn to Deal’s Gap. From there, people can choose to do
lunch at the Tapoco Lodge or do lunch picnic style at Fontana Dam. Either choice is
great. Spend the rest of the day exploring the area and driving the Dragon as much as
you wish. This drive will happen Friday and Saturday.

10:00am New Foothills loop - Short Trip
Sleep in late and choose your shorter drive. This on-your-own drive is closer to

scenic! Maps and suggestions will be provided. Optional picnic lunch available.

NOTES: When traveling these back roads, remember, stay on your side of the double yellow line. Crossing it can get you a ticket or worse. If someone behind you wants around, use the pull-offs; there are lots of them. When you do pull off, please pull as far in and park as tight as you can to make room for others. Have fun but please obey local speed laws and be safe. Plan fuel stops prior to leaving hotel as there are limited stops in some areas. Be sure to bring two-way radios as cell service is not guaranteed. Read over map prior to driver’s meeting; cell service is limited on most drives.

FIAT on the Dragon • Alfa Romeo on the Dragon
Bumping for Brett because it's a huge effort that turns into a great event, even if it rains and/or snows like last year.

Highly recommend even to those many hours of travel on boring roads away. I willingly drive thru all of Ohio and the boring part of Kentucky to get there, so you know I'm serious.

Fun will be had by all that can make it! Sign up and meet some fellow enthusiasts in breaks from driving some of the greatest roads in the USA!

This year we will have the very special Alfa Romeo SZ on display from the Lane Motor Museum. It will also lead the sunrise drives on Friday and Saturday morning on the new Foothills extension. I will be driving this amazing car on the drive and must say I am more excited about this than anything else.

As the registration deadline for FIAT on the Dragon draws near, check out the attendance map! We have over 30 Spiders signed up for this event. We have Alfas, New and classic cars, you name it, we have it.

People are coming from all over to join us for the FIAT and Alfas on the Dragon. I have placed a marker for most of the participants in the general area that they are originating from. Looks pretty cool to see all of that coverage.

We are anticipating between 120-135 cars this year. Don't miss the fun, sign up today before the registration closes.

Well, this sucks, I won't be able to go. Just cancelled the hotel reservation if anyone is interested in staying at the event's hotel.
Really sorry to hear this.

What kind of walkie talkie to people recommend for this event?

And any other items people recommend bringing?
Radios, just practice use beforehand and the adjustments. Last thing you want is to have voice-detection turned on...and your car's radio. The caravan doesn't want to listen to it.
Even in the hills, range is quite limited. However, you can call out farther than you might be able to on your cell.

Other items: A small cooler is a reasonably good idea for long haul days with cold water, but be sure to secure everything you're carrying in the car. Exuberant twisty bits WILL throw stuff around in the trunk and the passenger compartment.
