On one hand, I'm glad they are showing their rally racing heritage. They don't mention it nearly enough in my opinion. On the other hand, it seems to me that this is just a regular Abarth 124 with a specific combination of options, the majority of which have already been available, like heated seats, automatic climate control and so on.

We have been told by a very reliable source that Fiat's deal with Mazda limits what they can do in terms of performance, which is sad, because they could have easily turned it up to 200hp.

Yawn, another "limited edition" with nothing really "limited" about what it has, oh wait, a larger strut brace and some different wheels. What they should have done is made them come with the hard top (rather than an option) and strip out the interior removing the centre console and screen (like the 3" system, but without even that display), put in some basic bucket seats, add a roll cage and wheel arch extensions with massively wider wheels, and finally paint it yellow and red like the works Abarth 124 Spiders, now that would be a proper tribute...

They are the same brand though, at least as far as I'm aware. I have those wheels in black, after seeing these photos of the white version on what is essentially my car I am happy with my decision.

Different hubs (5 bolt); most likely the Fiat/Mazda ones would not be able to take the abuse. There’s a few videos of the actual rally cars in various states of disassembly. Only glimpses, though.

As a side note, has this (the real) rally car competed against other cars? The videos I’ve seen seem to appear to be ‘demo’ rallys. It’s a fairly minor class from what I understand (small engine displacement, rear wheel drive) with not many competitors.

I say Hurray!! Why, because the Spider just got a taste of actual publicity. Frankly, that's a good thing, even from a third party (Motortrend), because Fiat isn't doing squat to create publicity itself.

I wonder how many would have been sold if just one commercial was bought during the Superbowl? The exposure alone would have been worth it. Well... for the money it costs for a SB ad, they'd probably have to sell all remaining 2018 inventory to pay for the ad. Oh, well.

There was a Motor Trend post in FB about this today, and I got all excited until I saw the date of the article. I should know better. Did it really have, gulp, 170 hp?
