Air bag suspensions....can be fast. There are FAST guys racing on performance air bag suspensions. Google Air Lift Performance and similar.

I still prefer to race on our OHLINS coilovers, but air suspensions can work great when setup right and I could see installing one in a project car some day here.

I have also been considering an air suspension for my A124. You spend about $4k for an air suspension or Ohlins. The benefits of air suspensions are comfortable ride and adjustable ride height from the driver's seat. I have not dug into the performance of the system yet as I am just starting research. If Brian says performance can be good if correctly setup, I believe him. I am considering this system and it is the first one I have looked at: CEIKA Air Ride Coilover Kit for MAZDA MX-5 MX5 ND (15~UP) - Ceika Performance (ceika-store.com) . I bought a BBK for my SVX from Ceika and the quality and fitment was excellent. Their Air Ride kit starts at ~$2200. I will probably research over the next 3-6 months before I decide on a system or go cheap and just do the Eibach lowering springs.

Gonna have to put the dead body in the passenger seat now because that air tank will take up the entire trunk!
The bonus is that the owner will then be able to use the carpool lanes. :)
