Aurora’s build sheet

Please welcome a new member of my motoring family. Her name is Aurora. She is a 2018 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth. She is a fine young thing hailing from the great state of Texas. McKinney to be specific. I’m looking forward to her arrival. She will have her beginnning stats posted as well as ongoing modification updates.

Pictures will be posted as soon as she arrives.

That's wonderful Dan! Awesome. So happy you are able to get what you want so quickly! And a Italian Texan girl at that!!! Watch out...they are the sassiest of all the Abarth's.

She has a pretty name too!

Can't wait to meet her!

So I went on the FIATUSA site and did an Abarth search around McKinney to see if I could figure out which one was Dan's, and geez, that dealership is a hotbed of Abarths! I guess I'll have to wait for the big reveal along with everyone else. There were some white ones though.

An aside, are the 2018's not coming with Heritage stripes as much? Seems like that filter eliminates almost every 2018.

Aurora arrived today with a thick coat of road dust on her. I will give her a nice bath and then get some pictures. I’m really excited to be “back in the saddle again.” She’s a beautiful blank canvas waiting for transformation. 2018 Abarth , Bianco Gelato White, Black Recaro leather/Alcantara interior, navigation and sound group, visibility group, Brembo brakes. I have Fabiana’s mods ready to install. Let the transformation begin.

Welcome Aurora. First task was to wash her, then to adjust tire pressure from 47 psi to 29 psi. I don’t understand why we have to pay a dealer prep fee, when they don’t do a complete prep.

Your Abarth sounds like it's equipped EXACTLY the same as mine, everything but the automatic and Heritage stripes, good choice! Yours could pass as "before" pics of my car, although I'm sure it won't last that way for any length of time, lol...Glad you finally got another one, let the mods begin!

Over the past month upgrades have been slow. I have mostly been to trying to get my Texas car registered in California. It’s been a struggle between my Texas dealership and the State of California. I have another appointment at DMV on Monday. Hopefully I can get my VIN verification and be able to have Texas complete the application to California. Until then any mods involving emissions is taboo.

I have upgraded parts of the interior. Alcantara meter hood, Alcantara dash pad. Alcantara armrest cover with scorpion, Alcantara shift and e-brake boots, Raceseng Ashiko shift knob, Miata things glovebox shelf and Abarth logo replacement for the seatbelt warning light, red cup holders, red vent covers, Cravenspeed phone holder, 12” Black Axion lightning cable, WeatherTech mats, WeatherTech trunk mat.

I picked Aurora up today from Ricky’s shop. The gloss black heritage stripe looked amazing. Ricky was upset because the red 1/8” parting stripe did not turn out to his standards. Unfortunately trying to meet my time frame, he pulled the tape too soon and got an erose line, not the crisp line expected. He will rework it after the paint has had time to fully cure. The paint IMO is worth an additional 30 imaginary BHP. Yep

Today Phillip and I installed the Öhlins coilover suspension with FPspec top hats with spherical bearings and the GWR Brembo 12.75” BBK. We also installed Miataspeed SS smoke braided brake lines. Also installed was the rear RoadsterSport shock tower brace, front brackets for the Cusco front shock tower brace, modified Mishimoto windshield washer tank.

I’m replacing the OEM front shock tower brace to get better access to the adjustment knobs on the Öhlins. I was amazed at how rough the brackets for this brace was. None of the edge burrs were ground smooth. For the price paid the finish was a real disappointment. Phillip cut all of the unnecessary metal from the brackets and ground them smooth for repaint. On the other hand the aluminum brace had a mirror finish that was very nice. This part is at Danco having a hard anodized finish applied. Picture of the final application, when I get the bar back. I also modified GWR’s tow ring mounting bar. I had the front bar shortened 1.5” and sent it and the tow ring adapter to Danco for anodizing.

We modified the Mishimoto windshield washer tank a la @Mike34. We drilled the hole on the front of the tank instead of the side. Filled the tank and no leaks. Thank you Mike for your insight on this. This item is made for the MX-5 which does not have a headlight washer as most Abarths do. With the headlight washer 2 pumps are required. I will post an updated picture of the engine bay showing the Mishimoto tank and Cusco brackets tomorrow.

More to come later. Aurora is starting to take shape.
