Thanks for the response. Do you mean the temperature sensor that shows the outside temperature on the cluster or is there another temperature sensor im not aware of?
The temp sensor that reads/knows and thus regulates the interior temperature of your car. For the auto temp system to operate it has to be able to know and respond accordingly to the actual interior temp in your car.
I would also imagine, don't know for certain, there is a control module required. Seemingly there would have to be a means of automatically controlling/actuating the diverter door(s) and fan speed. So in answer to your original question ........ no I do not believe that changing out the control panel will give you automated climate control.

It won’t work. You need the harness, the interior temperature sensor, the electronics to control the vents and blend door motors. Everything is different. Your system is controlled with cables. Sorry for the bad news.
