When I start my 124 for the first time in the morning the Blind Spot Monitor does not turn on even though the icon in the mirror does flash. If I turn off the ignition and restart the car the monitor does start to work. Any ideas? Is there a relay
that controls the BSM system? Thanks.

I'm not sure I'm following the problem here. There is an issue some of have experienced where the BSM light in one or other mirrors illuminates when there is no vehicle there i.e. a false positive. Is that the problem you both are having?

The answer, apparently, is to have your dealer recalibrate the system, but allegedly this involves some specialist tools that most dealers don't have on hand and can take some time for them to get in. A Mazda dealer would probably be able to help too, but you'd need to pay for that rather than have it done under warranty.

Ah, so that’s why the driver-side BSM indicator on my Abarth is on all the time.

I noticed it on a used 2017 Abarth I test drove before buying. I thought there was something wrong with the electronics, so I shied from buying the car altogether.

When my new Spider started doing it, too, I assumed it was a quirk on these cars.

Mine is doing this. The light comes on when I start the car, but then the BSM doesn't work at all. It never lights up. My car was in a 'minor' rear end accident before I got it.

The sonar needs calibration and the mounting bracket and body of the car should be checked to make sure nothing is bent. Then you should be good. Until then use the tried and true over the shoulder technique.

The Blind Spot Monitor on these cars is the biggest waste of money. It‘s never worked properly on my Spider, or on any other Spider I test drove.

For some reason they come from the factory miscalibrated, and they are a pain in the ass to recalibrate. Even by the dealer, and under warranty.

Yup. I dont even use it, basically purchased the entire package just to have the better rear view mirror… one expensive fkn mirror…

Interesting. I just heard from the dealer and the sensors were actually bad and not powering on. New sensors under extended warranty.

I've had absolutely no problem with mine - they work as they should. Wow, guess I should be thanking God, because YES - to properly calibrate the sensors (radar units) is a PITA. Rear bumper cover comes off, out comes the digital level / angle meter, measuring stick, masking tape, wrench/socket/screwdriver . . . Best, s
