Brand new car - the blue temp warning light (manual says coolant) remains on after ignition for around 5 mins. Is this normal behaviour?

Yes 100% normal. The problem exists when it stays on a long time, and the engine fails to warm up quickly. That is the much discussed thermostat issue on this forum.

Welcome Adam,
first time I drove mine, I stopped at the end of the road to check if this was a major problem - it isn't. Always goes out after about 5 mins but it doen't help that the temp gauge scale is so small - it tell you nothing unless it has overheated.

Thank you all for the responses, really appreciate it. Has settled my mind greatly! (Now just to sort out the squeaky roof and I can fully relax!) Loving the car so far, and hoping to override the non-touch LCD screen soon too... My task for the weekend!
