Hello everyone.
I think that cars sold in USA / Canada have a button inside the cabin next to the steering wheel to pop the boot / trunk open whilst sitting in the driving seat? Cars sold in Europe (or at least, my 124 Lusso brought in the UK) do not have such a luxury. In my car, I can see a plastic plate which is where I think the button would be.
My question is - can I install a button myself? Is it an easy thing to do? Anyone had a go? Maybe the wiring is all there and ready to be hooked up, although I suspect not!
Apologies if this question has been answered, I have searched the forum!

I only realised that this button existed after watching the @Tazilon Brenner YouTube video "Tips, Tricks, and Hints for New 124 Spider Owners"

Thanks.

Matt

Would this be useful:

EDIT: Nevermind that just lifts the trunk once it's unlocked. There's not a button component.

here is some discussion that may berelevant. Discusses how various models have interior and/or exterior switches for the trunk and how each may be able to be added. Read down for your issue.

I know this subject has been around for a long time and there is some very informative info on it, including on Mazda forums , as it appears to be a general Mazda issue and not limited to our cars or the MX-5. The solution seems simple enough, which is to install the switch put a jumper across two wires on the BCM computer, which in practice may be more difficult than it sounds, but nevertheless doable. My question is; are there any spiders that were delivered ex factory with both switches in place, and if so how did that work? Was it enabled by software , and could it be enabled that way on other cars. Given that most cars already have the wiring in place, I would would assume that the BCM would also be standard across all cars.
