So I'm planning for some occasional track days in 2021 with my 124 Abarth, and the one thing I'm most of all concerned about are the brakes.
I don't think simply replacing the pads will suffice for track in terms of stopping power, so I'm looking at 4 options (all from GWR):

1. 4-piston Wilwoold over stock rotors — $550
2. 4-piston Wilwood 12.19" BBK — $815 (a compromise but a dead end if it's not enough)
3. 6-Piston Wilwood Calipers over stock rotors — $900
4. 6-piston Wilwood 12.88" BBK — $1600 (too expensive, imo)

Also, do I understand correctly that I can first go with #3, and then, if I want so, simply upgrade the rotors to 12.88"?
In this case #3 is a no-brainer, I guess.

I would really appreciate ideas from people who tried either of those mods and what you think about the price/performance ratio.

Also, are there any non-Wilwood BBKs for MX-5 worth looking at?

Have you asked GWR? From the postings I've read here it appears they're very helpful and will guide you to a good decision. I also suggest you review some similar threads here as there are a number of them surrounding the question. Good luck.

I second @AbarthEsq re. contacting GWR With your questions. I recently had extended interaction with them re. my exhaust setup. They went above and beyond, they know their products and our car inside out. Best, they are just an email/phone call away.

Cheers, SL

If you go with #3 or #4, should also consider upgrading the tires to get the most of those breaks and doing some tracking.

Tires upgrade is out of the question — I'm planning for some Maxxis Victra VR1 for summer season.

As for the brakes, I'm not so interested in store recommendation, rather wanted to hear personal experience with any of the options above.

I'm currently thinking to start with pads upgrade to EBC Yellow and see if there's a difference. A sub-$100 experiment I can easily afford to fail.
What's your plan to determine if the experiment fails or passes? Brake feel? Braking distance? Brake fade around a racetrack?

I'm interested.
