Ok, I give up. Can someone tell me exactly where the cigarette light is? I noticed that the little air compressor included in the trunk has a connector that fits a cigarette lighter and the little picture showing where the plug is appears to be by the seats but I can seem to find it. thank you..

It's in the upper left corner of the passenger footwell, built into what I assume is the Blower motor unit. It may have a cap on it which hides it further. In Japan this is the driver's side and it appears they just left it there for the LHD models as well.

Thanks to Ameridan, I found it.. I had to lay in the floorboard on the passenger side.. That thing is WAY up under the dash.. its ridiculous.. I have to say that is strike one for the location. But at least it has one, now i can buy my little portable vacuum cleaner.. Gotta keep this baby looking good.

(Once I've found the outlet), without using a voltmeter does anyone know if it is "permanently live" ? (i.e. not one of those that becomes live only when the ignition is switched on). I need that info before trying to use it to connect a trickle charger for the winter months.

It only seems to work with the ignition on or accessory. It's deenergized with it all off, at least what I've experienced.
