I ran into an issue that even the service manual doesn't cover: Both of my door speakers have stopped working.

The manual covers one side not working, or both speakers on one side, but this is both door speakers with 0 output.

All other speakers work. And unfortunately the TAU seems to aggressively split the audio between the tweeter and the door speaker, so there is 0 bass to my audio, and certain sounds don't seem to play.

I checked my codes and there was a code for low voltage on the amplifier at some point, but I've had a dead battery before which is the likely cause (no overlap in timing between the issues)

I also checked my fuses and nothing seemed wrong

Do you have the Bose system?
As far as I know both systems use passive crossovers for the front door+tweeters. Have you opened the door card for work or anything? Your tweeters are working?

Non-Bose, speakers connect to the TAU directly

And the tweeters work, all speakers except the speakers in both doors work

I guess the easyest thing to do would be to open the door cards up and replace the speaker with another to see if the problem is in the supply of speaker juice or the speaker itself. Any speaker should do

Sounds too simple, but first check your bass/treble settings, before disassembly of the doors

I checked bass/treble well before pulling codes

Miata guys mentioned it might be a safety cutout due to a short on one side

Looking at the wiring diagram it makes sense, each pair of speakers is on its own circuit


Going to try disconnecting the speakers individually and see what happens

The speaker themselves aren't the issue if BOTH door speakers are not working.

It’s likely the amplifier.

Try a reboot of the audio system. Has fixed a lot of my finicky problems. Hold the mute and nav buttons for 10 seconds. While engine is running. Whole thing will reboot.
