I bought a new Fiat Spider in June last year in Spain, used the car for a couple of weeks and then left back home. When returning to Spain by mid August the car refused to start, the start motor was running, but the engine didn't do anything. The car was brought to the dealer and apparently the ECU had to be replaced. After that I drove the car in September, November and January 2020 without any problem. Because of COVID-19 we could only return to Spain by mid July.... and guess what, the same problem. The car is now already for 2 months at the dealer and still they cannot find the root cause of what happened with the ECU now for the second time. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or any suggestion about a possible root cause?

If it is from sitting too long, it is most likely the oil has drained from the MultiAir brick and has nothing to do with the ECU. It's fortunate that it is under warranty so you aren't being charged money but very UNFORTUNATE that your dealership has no clue how the car works.

There is a procedure in the Service Manual on how to prime the brick from the oil fill hole.

Yes, have seen this issue posted several times when owners in the US put their car away for the winter and then can't start it in the spring because the oil draining out of the engine.

The car needs to be started about every three weeks or you run the chance of having the oil drain out of the multiair brick and the resulting no start issue. Follow the recommended procedure and you'll be driving your spider in no time. It's hard to believe that you got two ECU failures.

These ECUs are very rugged. It's unlikely you have a bad one, let alone two.
