Though my drive home down PCH was beautiful the day I bought my Abarth, I had my lovely wife in tow and had to behave. But last night, she was out and so it was time for a fun drive. I live right off Mulholland Canyon and have access to some truly beautiful canyons for spirited driving.
The grin on my face when I pulled back in the garage was a mile wide I started out without sport mode and was having a great time, very responsive with rev's up and handling was very predictable. The electronic steering isn't far from what my NC felt like, and have no complaints with it at all. Cornering felt fairly neutral at speed, very little front end push and I could pivot the rear pretty easily if desired.
The only place the sport button was glaringly obvious was taking off from a stop. When in sport mode, it just takes off. Without sport mode it takes a second or two to spool up and go. Sport is definitely more fun but the car was still a blast with it off once I was moving. The mid range pull is wonderful either way.
The car was exceedingly easy to drive at a good pace, very responsive and forgiving. With more seat time I'll enjoy exploring the limits and capabilities, but for my first fun drive, I have to say I am thrilled! As you can see from my signature, I've had quite a few ragtop cars and loved every one of them, but this one is clearly an evolutionary improvement in fun and comfort.
Looking forward to sharing information and discoveries about the car with all the rest here.
