Strange, I read that the stock tires (potenza) are max performance summer?
Will you switch to michelin pss?
I have no issues with them on pavement. When I went for a night drive last weekend after the GWR exhaust install, I stopped on a long stretch to practice my launching; RPMs to hit, how much and fast to pull the clutch, etc with no traction control on and the tires bit within a second or so and squealed very little. That gave me confidence that they were going to be OK and probably too much faith in them for that matter.
On the first pass last night I stopped on the puddle of whatever they spray down and did a pretty nice burnout and then spun hard down the first 100 yards or so, ass end fishing around a bit but held my line pretty well. Eased up a bit and finished better but was really nervous. At least I hit my shift points better than my practice runs, may have hit the top in 2nd for a smidge but my shifting could be faster. More practice needed.
As I was sitting back on Pit Row calming my nerves, I was on the phone with my wife telling her how it went. The guy next to me heard me talking about spinning so bad and I was thinking I needed MORE burnout to make them stickier and he suggested that I just go around the puddle and straight to the line when called up. I also had a little chicken in me the 2nd run and left the traction control on. Saw an SUV go completely sideways TWICE in the left lane while I was cooling off and calming down. Second launch was better for less spin, still bad RT, and I almost stalled because I over revved what I wanted to launch at this time and had let up just as the green lit and she bogged down for a moment. TC light was flashing a lot but it was easier to hold the line and much better shifting on time. More practice needed!
I really wanted to try putting the EC P1+ back in and go for a third run, but after the guy littered the right lane and it took them 45 mins to clean it up, I was just wore out. Up since 4am and it was close to 10pm at that point. I tried out the launch control before I left for the track and I definitely like it, but I chose too low of speed I think, at least for pavement. I chose 3500RPM since that's where the EC Dyno sheet shows the P1 torque hitting about max. On the street it bit hard when I let the clutch out, probably too fast, and stalled it once. Got to find the sweet spot for clutch pull that lets go of the rev limit and allows it to climb at the same time or up it a bit more. It may have been perfect for on the track though, don't know yet. As I said a few posts back, the EC P1+ is not as hot as the MaxPower Sport+ mode but probably on par with plain Sport mode. Again, I got cocky based on pavement results and went back to the MaxPower and lost my launch control and extra 300RPMs at the top but definitely MORE POWER.
Debating going out to the garage later and taking a shot at swapping the IC on my own or waiting for my mechanic to have a slot open because its 80 already at 7am, a high of 105 today and shows 90 at 9am. I will probably just install my new boost gauge when the vent mount shows up today *after* the Bama game. ROLL TIDE!
Also got a Cravenspeed round shift knob coming. That square OEM isn't locked down tight and it keeps twisting on me even with just palm heel and finger wall push/pull shifting and it feels uncomfortable when it rotates 45 deg.
Thanks for reading and I will always appreciate constructive input. Had a great time regardless and looking forward to getting better and I WILL break into the 14s! I should have clarified in the first post a bit better that I wasn't looking to break 14, as in hit 13s but to hit 14s. Poor phrasing on my part but it did start some good conversation anyway.
So IC needed to get to EC Phase2+ and 3 when they get it proofed out. I have the water injection system coming too. Need to find some sticky, wider tires, lighter wheels, maybe swap to the Forge divert w/ different springs tested, and a set of the GWR Springs based on the review posted last night. All I want for Christmas is a 1752 Turbo!
Stay Tuned (In every way)!!
