Hello everyone!

My name is matt. I'm a welder and mechanic. I have 1w years in various parts of the auto industry. I mig and tig all fabricated products. Recently i started to take side work from being side work to a full on fabrication adventure. I do one off custom fabrication as well as production, general maitenece and repair as well as cnc parts. Everything i produce is made in the states amd generally if i habe to outsource something its from a local business. I build everything from turbo kits, exhausts, chassis braces, cages, intakes and anything i can put my mind to. Currently im in the process of producing parts for the focus rs but i am looking into the nd mx5 and 124.

This is just a feeler thread to feel out the market. I will post pictures of my work later but until i become a vendor i will not be posting links or pictures of my business name. I would be looking for a local car in illinois to r and d some parts on. Certain parts will be free to the customer where as others will come at the cost of only materials.

Thanks and i look forward to being here and potentially building some parts for these cars.

Matt

Have you considered buying one? These car's are not too expensive and having the actual car would enable you to show off your work with some actual 124 specific products.

Greg
I have considered it. However i am just starting out in the industry on my own. Now i thought about a few different things when i decided to persue this. Option one was to take out a small business loan buy a car to make parts on, buy a building, buy shop supplies etc etc. Option 2 was to do this out of pocket.

I chose to go out of pocket for 1 main reason. I have no debt. My shop equipment, materials, etc etc were all purchased out of pocket. I have a good size place im currently working out of(which is family owned). The down side to this ment not buying r and d cars and racking up debt so i can focus more on the quality, engineering, tools needed and what not to deliver the highest quality part for the money as well as testing of products.

So the idea here for now is to test the waters and see if anyone is willing to step forward and exchange some free parts(as well as me covering any gaskets, dyno time, etc etc) for letting me use their car. I had success with the focus rs and will be releasing a line of parts around thanksgiving. We will see if anyone steps forward and if not then i will have to consider buying a car as a last resort.
