If reports are true Honda will be in the segment shortly. The story goes that they want a three tier sports car strategy with the NSX at the top, S2000 in the middle and S1000 at the bottom...

S1000 would be the Miata/124 rival...

The small S660 sports coupe is now arriving at Japan dealerships and it is being reported that Honda is looking into a more powerful S1000 model with a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine that may come to North America. That model would take on the Scion FR-S, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Fiat 124, while a born-again S2000 would be the candidate to compete against the Porsche Cayman, Audi TT, BMW Z4 and Nissan 370Z. Of course, the NSX sits atop the range to compete with supercars like the Audi R8.

This is what i'm talking about! Shooting the S2000 up segment while slotting in a smaller and still potent roadster/coupe sets Honda up nicely and provides some great options to us.
Never thought Honda would step into a ring similar to what the next Supra will be in, but its coming.

If it's going to rival the Z4, it can rival the future Supra to an extent.

I have a sneaky feeling that the next Supra is going to be more of a NSX rival then anything. Sounds like Toyota is thinking hybrid with that one...

I'm kind of curious what they have planned for the Miata/124 rival, especially if its true they want a midship :D:D:D;)

This sounds good but I don't think Honda will commit to three cars. I don't think there is enough volume in the lower brackets to justify two cars.

The S1000 would be cool. S2000 replacement would be great....but a replacement with RWD a VTEC engine that revs to infinity...not a bloody hybrid that weighs 400kgs more than it should like the stupid new NSX.

The S2000 would get a lot more of the buzz, much like the NSX has because of the history prior. The S1000 I wouldn't really worry too much about. That and referring to an upper comment, I don't think the new Supra/Z5 would be able to compete with the NSX. The S2000 may just be that candidate.

But @RBH58 outlined what the S2000 should be otherwise it won't even scratch my interest one bit. No RWD, screaming VTEC, high revs, count me out. Not dealing with a hybrid lol.
