How To Install EUROCOMPULSION V1 Intake

Overview:
I had an opportunity to try out the EUROCOMPULSION V1 intake, so I decided to write a brief tutorial for the install.

The factory ribbed intake tube on our cars is a bit restrictive and does not insulate against engine bay heat very well. EUROCOMPULSION has a V1 intake that solves both of those problems, reducing intake temps by ~9 degrees F on average, and increasing power by a peak of ~6HP.

Tools Required:
- Pliers
- 10mm socket & ratchet
- Flathead screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver or 9/32" (7mm should also work) hex socket bit
- Optional: Ft-lb torque wrench

Part Required:
EUROCOMPULSION FIAT 124 Spider V1 Intake

Procedure:
1. The V1 intake replaces the ribbed rubber tube you see here. To begin, remove the engine cover.

2. There are 7 points we will be disconnecting in this tutorial, marked below.

3. Begin by loosening the hose clamps at the two ends of the intake tube using either the Phillips screwdriver or 9/13"/7mm hex socket bit.

4. Using the pliers to open the hose clamp, remove the 90 degree elbow going into the top of the intake tube.

5. Using the 10mm socket, remove the bolt securing the PCV tube.

6. Using the pliers to open the hose clamp, remove the rubber hose from the PCV tube.

7. Disconnect the coolant hose running across the top of the intake by wedging a flathead screwdriver underneath the toothed fastener.

8. Once you have everything disconnected, pull the intake tube off of the turbo and air filter box, and pull the PCV tube out of the intake (this may take some twisting of the intake.

9. Fit the EUROCOMPULSION V1 Intake over the turbo and air box with the two clamps provided, and tighten clamps. No clamps are needed for the PCV tube or the 90 degree elbow; simply push those in and they will remain air-tight.

10. Re-install the rubber hose going into the PCV tube from step 6.

11. Re-install the bolt securing the PCV tube from step 5 and torque to approximately 12 ft-lb.

12. Re-install the engine cover.

I didn't bother with steps 6 and 7.

On a only slightly related note, and showing my mechanical ignorance, the pcv hose is venting the crankcase right? Why is it then routed in to the intake? Emissions control?

PCV is always routed into the intake. On turbo cars, there is usually one PCV path being released upstream of the turbo, and another one downstream, to allow PCV to flow in both boost and vacuum intake conditions.

I added steps 6 and 7 simply to make it easier to get the PCV tube off of the OEM intake, since it only takes a minute to remove that bolt and disconnect the hose.

You forgot to reattach

Your coolant tank overflow tube back to the connector in the final picture. ;);) Great right up and pics.

Yeah, forgot to do that when I took the picture and didn't bother taking a second one. I was hoping no one would notice, haha.

Pulling the PCV tube out of the stock intake tube is a pain in the butt because of the metal ring that secures it. I found that getting a little bit of soapy water in there helped a bunch.
Looks just like mine!

Photo 6, I pinched and rotated that nasty spring clamp out of the line of fire of my knuckles- ouch! For my oil changes, I need to remove the V1 to get to the oil filter, so that spring clamp needed to be made more friendly.

That metal ring to pull out the PCV tube from the stock intake tube, mine met it's maker thanks to a small Dremel cut off wheel, had the ShopVac hose sucking up the grinding dust as I went. What a stupid clamp device that is. No reason they couldn't have used a spring clamp/hose clamp.

Greg, if I install the AFE air filter with the V1, stock Abarth exhaust, can I go with the Race or Race + map on the EDL. Off course I have to tighten the plugs.

Also, beside the Adaptor to the EDL to make it stock, is there a map that is stock. tia

Yes, the V1 and AFE filter combo will be fine with the EDL Race map. You might be fine with the factory spark plug gaps. I would try that first.

In the self tuning software you can do that pretty easily. Just turn the key numbers down to 1.

Set Start, and Set Decrease (of course if you bring Set Start down to 1, Set Decrease will automatically follow, but if it doesn't, set it to 1 yourself)
