FIAT Brand
FIAT brand sales, which include the Fiat 500, Fiat 500L and 500X, were down 14 percent in July. In its first month on sale, the all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider posted 480 in sales in July. The 124 Spider revives the storied nameplate, bringing its classic Italian styling and performance to a new generation. Paying homage to the original 124 Spider nearly 50 years after its introduction, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider delivers the ultimate Italian roadster experience with driving excitement, technology and safety combined with iconic design. In July, sales of the Fiat 500X were up 1 percent compared with the same month a year ago.

Sales currently compromised by lack of manual trans versions...I know lots of folks interested yet waiting for manual trans.

We were lucky to get a Manual Trans....would not have bought an auto, our local dealer sold his two manual trans 124s on day one... has just automatics remaining.

There is a Prima still on the lot where I bought mine! Northside Imports in Houston, TX... when I asked if he had sold it...his answer was "All of our serious buyers on it have a trade in that is keeping them from a new car." who knew...I have put 600 + miles on my car...and I am loving it!!!

Canada Sales of Miata Mx-5 posted at 105.
I'd say thats pretty good for the 124 spider.

August sales for both US and Canada will be very interesting!
I think September and October sales will be much better for Fiat in Canada due to its giving $2,500 instant rebate and leasing is 0% for 4 years and purchasing is 0% for 5 years. much better than Miata. That's what made me pull the trigger on the Red Manual Lusso.

There are incentives for the US market as well, sales can't be that great for this month. I have 9 missed phone calls and have 3 sales directors bypassing their salesman trying to get me to buy a 124 Spider. This slightly worries me on resale, however with their .9x36month loan it shouldn't impact me too much unless they do a mass price drop in the future like they have done with the 500's.

resale value on all fiats is horrendous, that's just the way it is. Not something I lose a lot of sleep over tho.

I keep my cars for at least 10 years, so resale value has never concerned me.

I get the feeling Fiat badly misjudged the American market. They've imported mostly automatics thus far and nobody wants them.
Having a vehicle like my Wrangler, I'm not used to throwing money away, I'm used to staying in newer vehicles, and in some case moving up the ladder.

Regarding sales, I don't blame the auto's, there are plenty of manual's sitting on lots unsold on the west coast, the Miata isn't a volume seller either; I fear its the market not the actual car.

If I change my zip code to Denver, I get the entire West coast. 517 vehicles within 1000 miles, 115 of them manuals. Of those, only 5 Lusso manuals. Only 1 of those is a Lusso Premium manual, which seems to be the highest demand. The dealer is demanding $3000 over MSRP for it.

From my own zip code, 37343, I get the entire East coast. Similar story. 356 cars within 1000 miles, 15 manuals, 7 manual Lussos, 1 manual Lusso Premium.

I just bought a Lusso manual Premium from a dealer in Texas 800 miles away sight unseen, and paid $1300 to ship it to me - since my local dealer has a Classica automatic and won't get anything else for a long time. It should arrive in a day or two.

People who are unwilling to get aggressive and buy far from home are not going to see anything they want for a months. Some will drift away and buy something else. Rather than bringing over a bunch of high-selling hot cars to get them on the street and advertising the car out on the street, they've got a bunch of low-selling dogs sitting on dealer lots.

Eventually the log-jam will work itself out. If FCA's master plan for the Spider's rollout was to maximize anticipation and minimize satisfaction I guess they've succeeded.

The price of a Lusso gets you: V6 Mustang, 4Cyl Camaro or V6 Challenger possibly an R/T all of which are majority sold as Auto which I understand why Fiat choose to go with more auto's over manuals.... I agree they're are not as many Lusso manuals as there should be, however there are plenty of Classica manuals; the average sports car buyer is going with the car with twice the horsepower and not the Fiata route.
