Hi all,

I am looking at a 2017 Abarth in Florida and was curious if anyone local to it could check it out for me. I live up in NJ and just had a terrible experience with a dealer closer to me so right now my defenses are up a bit. I would really appreciate an unbiased set of eyes. I'm willing to compensate if it helps motivate. PM me for details. If posts like this are not allowed please delete.

Thanks

I think theres a 2017 or 2018 abarth that has been sitting at Michiana Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Mishawaka Indiana for a while, last time I saw it they had pretty steep markdown on it but that was pre covid car shortage. If you see it and like it id look at it more close in person on your behalf but i aint goina florida.

Update: The inspection service was actually great. Very thorough and quick turn around. HOWEVER, the salesman called me once the guy was finished and said the car sold...... The car in fact had not been sold when another saleswoman called me yesterday but I told her that because of her coworker I was no longer interested.

General dealership jackassery is why I bought mine from Carvana…worked with a dealer in KY to try and buy one in December and they were so unwilling to cave on anything due to this crazy market I walked away. They were selling a car they already had sold new and got back with almost shot tires…bought exact same car with 15k less miles for $1000 more and it was delivered to my door. Dealer wanted $850 in fees and also a delivery charge, etc. Nope. Ironic twist is the car I bought came from their dealership new…

The one I was looking at is still on their lot.

However, if it’s the car you want at a decent price, you can just grin and bear it and do the deal. In slight defense of the salesperson, someone could have backed out at the last minute, but this market has really made it difficult to deal.. Good Luck! The car is worth the wait!

I've been hearing unfavorable things about carvana but it is tempting.

When the saleswoman contacted me she revealed that the car was never changed in their system to represent that it was in the process of being sold and even asked her manager about it. Not really sure what the other guy aimed to do. That inspection was worth it though, car had a chipped windshield and when I inquired about the dealers $1000 "reconditioning" fee I mentioned the chip and the salesman said my insurance would handle it. Why on Earth would my insurance care about it. Definitely a less than honest place.

I only dealt with Carvana once, attempting to buy a 2018 Jeep Wrangler with 17,000 miles, a few years ago now.

They were absolutely worthless. After 10 days of daily back-and-forths, often 3 or 4 times a day, they were still unable to confirm funding, even after I had them twice on a three-way call with my bank. Every time you call you get a different person; so you spend 30 minutes every time on hold waiting for the next available rep, and demonstrating over and over who you are.

I ended cancelling the deal altogether. Total waste of time.

Honestly I sold my 911 over the internet to a local dealer here, they picked it up, bought the 124 online through Carvana a month later, they dropped it off. Never left the house. I had reservations on both deals, but the titles, registration, etc. all went great, plates delivered to my door. Very easy. I have heard of issues selling to Carvana, but my buying experience was top notch. My car has 4900 miles on it, so I was less concerned with issues (but had it looked at during my 7 day trial)…checked out fine and off I went.

Yeah I think it is maybe hit or miss…but I’ve bought and sold probably 45 cars in my lifetime and this was the easiest time I’ve had. Much better than the “four square let me talk to the manager” crap show that goes on for hours…talk about a waste…wow. My wife won’t even step into a dealership anymore, and I really don’t blame her…

I won’t defend the dealer model. But IMO the problem with Carvana is precisely not having a hungry manager willing to push your deal all the way through. Instead, you deal with a bunch of paper pushers, none of whom give a hoot if you close the deal or not.

Yeah I don’t know how they work on commission or whatever at Carvana, but like anything it probably depends on who you work with. My salesperson/coordinator/whatever was very helpful and spot on with any questions, etc. and kept me in the loop the whole time. Working with my bank was fine too. I have worked with some great people at some dealerships as well, I’m probably over generalizing both ways…as they say YMMV… I will say the smaller, independent “specialized” dealers seem to be, in my experience, a better experience…but that is who I mostly have preferred to deal with in the past.
