that seems high for the price of the vehicle. search online and you can find it a bit lower I believe.

Exactly. These plans are sold because they make the dealer money. Rarely do they ever save the consumer any money. Set that $3k aside in an emergency fund, and if you happen to have an expensive failure outside of your warranty, you'll be all set.
