Possible relocation to Toronto/Waterloo Area

Greetings - I work for a tech company in the Waterloo area and may be relocated there from Houston, TX. I was curious to see what types of mods are allowed or not in relation to the US. How are emissions tests done?

Also, does anyone know if you can just bring your cars or if you need specific things like display speed in km or maybe additional lighting that US models don’t have.

Right now we have the 124 Abarth that legally passes emissions here, a Model 3 that has no emissions, and a 2004 IS300 that does not.

What emission tests? Does that answer the question?

Joking aside, some jurisdictions have noise level bylaws... so for example, in Montreal the idea of a delete would get you fined. Not sure about if the vehicle would be removed from the road till addressed or not. There are a few members here from the Toronto area that can speak to more of your issues.

As far as metric displays and things like DRLs, that's more of a thing if the vehicle is new from a dealer. Bringing your vehicle with you should not present any problems. But curious, doesn't your speedometer also show kilometers in small text? Been a while since I rented a car in the US and I can't remember if the dial showed both or not... but ours show kilometers in big numbers and miles in smaller numbers. To bring your vehicle may just require a basic safety inspection, but you need to begin researching the requirements for bringing it here permanently.

Does Ontario still control all their liquor sales through provincial government shops? Privatization of that business in Alberta was one of the best decisions that was ever made, and that change was made over 30 years ago. Now you get to shop for sales on your favourite spirits, or even have it delivered to your door by Skip or Doordash. :)

Which reminds me, the OP will also have to get used to using the letter "U" a lot more. lol
A fellow Ontarion member moved to Montreal, I think he had stage2, he went to a FCA dealer and everything was OK, the Other way around I don't know, I know Ontario is more strict.
I live in Cambridge, just below Kitchener-Waterloo (KW).
No noise restrictions here but Mississauga and Toronto have bylaw restrictions.
Mine is heavily modified and no issues.
I'm also part of Ontario Fiat Club so maybe you'd be interested to join?
If you need a mechanic, mine worked on my car and knows it inside out so I'd be happy to introduce you to him if you need one.
Welcome to Canada! 🇨🇦

I just searched the Canadian Government's website and thought I would share the link.
If you stretched your Spider or installed a lift kit, you cannot bring it here. So much for the Spider Limousine.

We'd have to call it 124-Daddy-Long-Legs if we stretch it 🤣
@james.today If your firm is helping you move, they should be able to assist you with importation of your vehicles.
