I’m just about done with installing my turbo blanket from PTP. I referenced XtremeRevolution’s installation of his SILA blanket, and found it very helpful, with the only difference being that PTP provides washers with their bolts. My question is about this weirdly long bolt. It’s been rusted to hell and to my knowledge serves no purpose, so do I really need to keep it in? Do I replace it with a shorter bolt and washer that’ll fit snugly against the blanket? Or can I just remove it entirely?

You should find more than a few threads on here talking about turbo blankets, including the PTP version which many of us bought. You'll see that many of us turfed that long bolt as it serves no function. Consider it the appendix of the Spider, and you're doing a proactive surgical removal. At least the blanket now ships with the right hardware to install it. When I bought mine a few year back, they provided no hardware and suggested you reuse the existing bolts... except the factory bolts aren't long enough... so I had to make a run to the local hardware store to buy some stainless steel bolts long enough to secure it, along with some SS washers to hold everything down nicely.

On page 5 of that XtremeRevolution thread, you'll find this post How To Install Turbo Thermal Blanket , which is where I described my installation of the PTP blanket in my vehicle.

Humour Trivia: I notice in my post (linked above), that my double use of the word "H E double hockeysticks" got replaced with asterisks. I guess we have editorial removal of sensitive language being performed by the forum hosts. Good thing I didn't come out cussin'. lol
Shortly after posting this question, I went back to that thread and went through every page, including your post lol. This is my first time tinkering with an engine, so I’m hyper paranoid about causing irreparable damage. Thanks for the help everyone!

I’m probably the world’s clumsiest wrencher. I’ve dropped lots of stuff into the belly of the beast, and sometimes can’t tell which end of a tool to use. Still, on this car, I’ve successfully installed an oil catch can, a GFB DV+, a PTP Lava turbo blanket, SokieTech hood struts, a BMC air filter, all the red bits and side badges, a complete set of LED lighting, replacement torque box covers, red accent piping, CLD sound deadening tiles, a bright dead pedal, and, no doubt, a few other things I’ve forgotten about. I drew the line at a FMIC upgrade only because I don’t have access to a lift.

Even for me, my Spider has been an incredibly easy car to wrench on. And I enjoy the end results even more for knowing I did it myself.
Sounds like we have the same taste in upgrades. My EC catch can and Sokietech hood struts just arrived and I’m planning to install them both today, but I’ve read about how they share a mounting location. Where did you end up installing the catch can bracket?
