minor inconvenience but does anyone else notice that the rear camera gets dirty very quickly (as does the whole rear of the car) such that there's virtually no point having it as all I can see is the proximity markers on the screen, everything else is blurred. Is there some sort of spray/coating I can apply to ease situation? Or is it a case of every time I walk round the back to wipe my finger over the lens?

Mine is often dirty, indeed - though I have found this in all my cars with a reverse camera.

I just keep a microfiber towel and some spray cleaner (zaino right now) in the trunk, and every time I open the trunk lid, I just quickly wipe down the lens. Means I'm also ready to address the occasional bird droppings or tree sap or other paint-eating problems when they occur...

I've also been driving the car in ridiculous bad weather this winter, so the entire rear of the car is pretty grungy at times...

I'm guessing the problem you experience with the camera lens getting dirty is a result of the conditions you're driving in. I've had my Spider since August and only experienced one time when the camera provided a murky image - and that was the result of having washed the car, forgetting to dry off the lens, and ending up with a water spot. I live in sunny Arizona and don't see much rain. My suggestion for you would be to keep an eyeglass cleaning kit handy.

I understand rear cameras on cars where you sit up high that you could possibly miss seeing a small child behind the vehicle, but I really don't have any use for it on the 124. They are becoming mandatory safety items soon, which is the only reason I could see they put it on.

If you're 6'2" like me it's a little hard to look out the window so I find I do use the camera. At least in cold weather.

I dunno. My mirrors work pretty well whether the top is up or down.

The side mirrors, yes, but the rear view mirror isn't much help unless I lean down. Plus, when up, the top has huge blind spots to the rear sides. Glad the camera is there as reinforcement.

I use it all the time and wouldn't want to miss it anymore. My wife is shopping for a new car and since she saw mine, that option is on the top of her list.
Always better to see more when you are in reverse!

Living in New Mexico, my camera stays clean for long periods. I may have cleaned it once, other than washes, in 4 months. I have gotten used to having one over the years, and it comes in handy when backing out of the driveway across a sidewalk that my neighbors use a lot. It is also helpful backing the car into the garage, as is usually the case. I can tuck it into a tight spot to enable me to open my door wide with my wife's Subaru on the other side.

on some of the newer cars like mercedes their camera pops out from behind a door like a cuckoo clock when put into reverse. though i think the camera stays on way too long after you put it back into drive on the mercedes.
