Hello all

Just looking for now but was curious about highway driving and rpm's. I have found the ratios for 6th plus the final drive for both the auto and man and by my calculations there seems to be a huge difference regarding rpm's doing 80 mph.

Any comments and/or concerns regarding the auto vs man. (And yes I know about the interaction and feeling about manuals.)

Thanks

6th gear speed = RPM/100 * 2 + 10

or about 500 RPM per 10 MPH.

50 MPH = 2000 RPM
60 MPH = 2500 RPM
70 MPH = 3000 RPM
80 MPH = 3500 RPM

I feel that the manual, along with that of almost all other vehicles I've driven, is not geared long enough in top gear.

Highway MPG test is to blame. My thoughts on the matter Here

Any autos out there. Looking at the numbers and doing the math I came up with 2200 at 75. Sounds low.

I did the numbers check several months ago and checked both auto and stick at 60mph

If I remember correctly the difference was app 700 rpm less with the auto

So I saw around 1700 rpm at 60 in the auto and 2400 rpm in the stick
