How did you get registered in NaviExtras website? First problem is finding your car. Fiat 124 doesn't exist. Ok, let's go for Mazda Infotainment. I clicked and entered the Mazda Infotainment website for registering. My question is: why? So, I didn't go on. I want to talk to someone in Naviextras not to the Mazda customer care. They are making things purposely complicated ;).

At least 3 of us now. At least I can stop tearing out what little is left of my hair as I am now 99% confident that this is a problem with the current update file, especially as I can restore to an earlier version without issue.
I am still in contact with Naviextras and am waiting for their techs to get back to me after feeding back the info in my previous post.
I'll update as soon as they do.
In the meantime I'm sure it would help greatly if anyone else with the problem reported it to Naviextras, I do think the issue is with them. I wouldn't hold out much hope of the dealers sorting anything and Fiat Customer services are very friendly and try to help but again, not really much use.

I've been updating maps since Fall 2016 using the toolbox from the European website. All went well until the 3rd, most recent time this past September. It updated in the normal time span but now takes much loooooooonger to load when starting the car. And then during a family visit to the Los Angeles metro area, it many times sent me on wild goose chases all over town except to the actual entered destination. And finally while leaving town it froze up completely westbound through downtown LA on a freeway and didn't resume working until north of Malibu on Highway 1.

As for dealers and the nav system. none seem to have a clue and most actually admit that.

I visited 2 days ago the Abarth dealer for the wheels/steering wheel alignment and adding the security bolts to the wheels and mentioned about the issues I (and many others) are having with the maps updating. The man with whom I talked, a very good mechaninc (for 6 years I took there my Alfa Mito Cloverleaf for services), looked at me a bit confused. He said: "perhaps the system must be updated". And I replied: "What's the point of updating the system if my problem is updating the maps?". In my opinion the real problem is that the electronic in our car is Mazda. FCA system is quite different and I see that they are not well prepared. We should go to a Mazda dealer instead and talk to them. That's what I will do as soon as I can. In the meanwhile I'm receiving every other day an sms from Abarth asking to contact them for a feedback. They seem more stressed than me :D!

ps. Anyway the dealer told me also: "Congratulations, it's a jewel. This car and the Alfa Giulia Cloverleaf gave me shivers, when I drove them, after many years :)

Yep, their site is awful, can't remember how I did it but I remember I had to pretend I was something that I wasn't. See next post, hopefully sorted

OK folks, problem looks as though it's sorted, here's the latest reply I received from Naviextras. Having initially said tat they couldn't reproduce the problem I managed to convince them that their was nothing wrong my end and they agreed to look again:

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your kind patience. I am glad to inform you that our developers were able to reproduce the problem and found that it was caused by a minor configuration problem on our end.

A fix will be released on Monday (4th of December, approximately at 1 PM CET), so you should retry the update then, if possible.

Thank you, and we are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

Éva

So I understand this correctly, once I figure out how to remove the card safely, it has to go to my computer to be updated?

Yes, the card is easily removed by pulling down the little cover (it hinges at the bottom) near the USB sockets. Push it in first and it should pop out.

Then download the map update toolbox form here http://www.124spiderinfotainment.com/howto-manageupdates. Select your screen type then maps and you should find the toolbox software.

Load this up on your PC, plug in the card and the software should identify it. Then you can create an account, buy updates or get updates for subscriptions you already have.

Thanks, all done without a hitch. It just took a while to download it all. Now I have an SD card and no car. The bride decided she wanted to drive it today, with temps in the 60's

If you want, you can copy it directly to another (larger/faster) SD card if you want, or just to your computer once you've done 100kms (prior to that the licence is locked to the serial number of the SD card, afterwards it is to the VIN of your car). I think the software backup is to their servers.

I think you are correct as it said it was backing up data, and I believe the latest update was in Sept. So you are saying I can essentially copy this card to a faster card to have as a backup? Or to a file in the computer as well? The car has 625 miles already, so it should work.
Thank You

Yes exactly. Just copy everything on the card to a folder on your PC and/or to another card. It works just fine. I have mine on a faster and larger card now, although I can't see any noticeable difference in speed etc but I do have an easy to get at backup just in case. It will only work in your car though as it is locked to the VIN
