Interesting stuff. I have a genuine card on its way to me as my Spider was supplied without the SD card. As a non-techie, is there any advantage of making a copy of the card before loading it? Would that allow me to replace it if there were any issues going forward?
Also does anyone have any feedback on the paid for subscription service for live traffic updates/fuel prices/weather/etc?
Is it value for money? Thanks
No advantage before loading it, you will need to do 60 miles or so (100km) before the card is then locked to the VIN of yor car. Up to that point the license is locked to the serial number of the SD card it comes on, so any copy to another card in that period will not work. This is how it works with a new car and new card, I assume it will be the same with a new card for a car that has done some miles.
After that you can copy it to a folder on your PC and/or a spare card as a backup.
The Fiat Map Update Toolbox will also make a backup of the card too.
The traffic/fuel prices/weather is OK. Fuel priices and weather are far from essential. Traffic isn't too bad and seems to work reasonably well asking if you want to be re-routed due to traffic up ahead but it is a long way from TomTom traffic services if you've ever used that on a TomTom device. It doesn't make it clear (or not that I've found easily while driving) where your reroute will take you or how much time it will save. TomTom does all that and lists on the side of the main screen all upcoming delays and expected time of delay.
You should get a free trial with the card (can't remember if it was 30 or 60 days)
