Sport mode

For any 124 Abarth owners I have a question. I just took out an Abarth for a test drive, it was alot of fun but as far the that sport toggle goes, I could not see any indication whether or not it was on.
Now I need to find one with recaro seats to see if its worth the extra money !

with EDL, I bearly use the Sport mode, I drive it normal, when I need the sudden acceleration it's at the tip of my toes. Plus here the cops are more circulation ticket cops than criminal.

You have an accident or vandalism, forget it they won't show up, call them to give a ticket, they're there in the instant minute. <BG>

So I get lot's of kicks on the sudden acceleration out of my Abarth, then trying to hit top speed.
So I even forgot the button is there. LOL
I finally found a use for non sport mode. When cruising on the highway for long distances at sustained speeds. It lowers the noise level of my exhaust and makes maintaining speed more progressive. That is about it. I set it once I start the car and leave it on 99% of the time.
Even in sport mode do you find that its quiet enough or could have Fiat done more to reduce road noise? heard that these 124's still could use some better sound insulation.
it is my opinion if you purchase a roadster, you should be looking for the visceral experience of some road noise, some mechanical noise, and some engine noise. a roadster should be more of a primal experience, where your senses are tantalized by the inputs which make driving an experience, rather than point a to point b transportation. if you are looking for the insulated from the world ride, get on the bus....

I have the full GWR non resonated exhaust. It has a bit of a done on long drives with the roof up. Hitting the button reduces that slightly. The long term answer is I'm going to add a resonator. With the stock exhaust it doesn't matter.

The least place to feel insulated from a world ride would be on a bus imho ;)

I always drive with the sport mode on, and I can feel the difference, quicker throttle response and steering...I also drive with the traction control disabled....
So, I am a brand new 124 Abarth owner and was looking for exactly what happens to the steering in Sport Mode, thinking it reduces the power steering assist. Would love to reduce it more or perhaps have no power steering in the Sport Mode. Is this doable/desriable?

I always drive my Abarth in sport mode. The Torque comes on a bit earlier on if I'm not mistaken ( feels that way) and the automatic transmission becomes a bit sharper as well.

It has been mentioned here many times that engaging sport mode reduces power steering assist. If that is the case I cannot discern it. And yes, it would be more desirable for a more natural feel, at least for me. Is it doable? I'm not qualified to answer that.

I had to run in non-sport mode (my phase 1) over a month while I waited for my intercooler installation appointment. As soon as the IC was in I could run in sport mode (had phase2). There was quite a large difference I noticed immediately in stiffer steering. I hadn’t used it in over a month so I got very used to the soft steering in phase 1 (non-sport mode).

Why is that? Does anyone know if it is also true with the Record Monza exhaust? I didn't think there was anything electronic about that, just a pressure-activated bypass valve.

I have an Alfa Giulia and expect sport mode to be similar to dynamic. With a manual transmission there really shouldn't be any need for 'A' mode.
Yeah... Ya got me there, because the Sport Mode switch has nothing to do with the Record Monza's valve. The only thing I can think of is IF you're cruising right around a shift point, the sport mode might hold a lower gear/higher revs which may be a little louder.
