I bought a new 2018 Abarth Spider two weeks ago. It took me a week or so to figure out why my trunk was frequently popped, but I finally realized that about 1 out of 4 times I start the car, the trunk pops a fraction of a second after I press the start button on the dash. Has anyone else encountered this?

Not heard of that at all. Strange one. Suggest making sure the fob is not in contact with anything/squashed in your pocket. And knee is not near under-dash boot release button.
Thanks, I checked that. First I thought the fob button was being pressed in my pocket. Nope. Now, I press the start button and listen for the trunk to pop. When it does, I have to get back out to shut it. Strange (and a bit annoying).

There is a button on the left side lower dash to open the trunk... Are you hitting it with your knee?

Unfortunately not. It’s like a game now. I get in, sit perfectly still, start the car, and listen for the pop of the trunk release. When it happens, the trunk pops between the time I press the start button and when the engine is fully started, it’s that fast.

Will have to look out for this on mine - A couple of times I have started driving then noticed the 'door open' light on the dash, because the boot (or trunk!) is open, when I have not been in there - Maybe I have the same issue?

First time I realized it was happening as I started the car, I had it parked in the garage with the top already down. That made it easier to hear exactly when it was happening.

Edit: thanks for posting, it’s nice to know maybe it’s not just me!

Only thing that comes to mind is a loose connection regarding that trunk opener, being activated by the engine turning over.

Recently I've found my trunk unlatched when coming back to the car and started listening - Noticed it was happening as I got out of the car... Thought I was tapping the dash button with my leg, but in my case, it seems that it's the fob button being depressed when I bend my leg to get out... Still trying to get a handle on EXACTLY when it happens, but I've heard the "thunk" when getting out - never when starting her up.

I will be watching for this as well. This just happened to me a couple of days ago.

Anyone got a picture of this trunk release button as there doesn't seem to be one on the Australian version. If it is button panel next to the steering wheel I have traction control and blind spot monitor... And four empty panels
