I actually called PTP on Friday to inquire about a blanket and the lady on the phone, pretty sure her name was Ashley, said that they are developing a blanket, but have trouble finding a car, a turbo, or even a heat shield to work with. She even went as far as to say that they intended the product to be at market already but they are trying everything to get a car. If you're in the Austin area, I would give them a call and see if you can help out. ;)
Anyone from Austin here? This would be the blanket to get.

Here's a short video I posted just now regarding the installation and location differences between the stock heat shield and the blanket.

Hope it helps you guys out a bit...
I really like your video. The information was very well presented, and accurate. Although I haven't used it, that Sila blanket looks like it fits nicely.

Thanks sdlynx, that is exactly how I installed mine. Mine did smoke a lot and I'm not accustom to that much smoking coming from under the hood unless there are problems. Thanks again for the video.

Yeah, from what you described, it sounds like yours was a bit extreme. Quite possible you got one with extra fiberglass on the exterior. That's likely what is smoking. It will eventually burn off. Meanwhile it'll be a real PITA.

I'm the same way. That, and with the early life smoking I'm certain the (likely unfounded) fear of future combustion of the blanket overall would always haunt me. Worst nightmare, it happens in my garage and everything is lost. I think I'd rather wait for one that doesn't burn.

Frankly, I don't see why they would make it with components that are not up to the task of resisting the heat generated. Unless the product somehow depends on some part burning off (I don't understand how that would be), it seems like an inferior design. If something is smoking, it is burning.

Has anyone taken it off, post-smoke off, to see what remains on the underside of the blanket?

Hi stevet, I removed mine because of the same reasons you describe. This is my primary vehicle and I'm concerned about it in LA bumper to bumper traffic. When I removed the blanket, the backside insulation was brown as in burnt. It was still there but it was burnt.

Guys... These things DO smoke for a while. If you don't like that possibility, don't get one. Simple, easy solution. Yes, the inside will look burnt, just like the bottom of a frying pan will look burnt after a while. It doesn't mean it's not working. If it's excessive (I can't tell, since no video or example to show), then there could be an issue.

This could be a case where a used part is more valuable than a new one. Here's my ad:

For only $10 more, I will sell you a turbo blanket guaranteed not to smoke or smell. Don't risk having one of those blankets start a fire under your hood. Don't risk the smoke obscuring your vision while driving. Don't risk your significant other complaining about the noxious fumes in your car.

Just pick out the brand and color you want, specify the car that it is for, and I will purchase and condition your turbo blanket for the nominal fee of $10. (Send all of the money in advance, including the small shipping and handling fee.)

The PTP blanket I installed on my Dart did not smoke, and it did not look burnt on the side that was in contact with the turbo. It produced a smell initially, but it did not smoke.
Yep, this is the brand I'll take, as soon as they make one.

Although JF does make a kind offer for his services.

I just installed the SILA titanium turbo blanket...10 minute job at best...took it for a 25 minute spirited drive...really not much smoke or odor...once shut off and stopped it is smoking a little more...
You removed the stock heat shield, correct? The blanket is in contact with the turbine?
