thanksThe best advice I can offer is to review the posts in the exhaust sub forum and check you tube. It’s not an easy choice but it’s going to be fun.
Best regards
Pete
Most people would probably agree that the Auto Ricambi resonated and non-resonated axle-back options are the best bang for the buck and sound great. I have personally had both versions on my 124 Abarth and they look and sound great.I have the 124 spider 2017 mod with 140 HP turbo and like to have a bit more aggressive sound from the exhaust, but not as loud as the original 124 spider abarth.
can anyone recommend something that will meet my wishes ?
Lars
is the resonated or the NON resonated the most loud ? And is both ( res and non resonated) louder than a 124 spider abarth with original exhaust ?Most people would probably agree that the Auto Ricambi resonated and non-resonated axle-back options are the best bang for the buck and sound great. True enough, and you probably right about listening to videos gives a false impressionEither go with advice from forums as noted above or physically go and hear some. Will be extremely hard to gauge any exhaust from videos online as they never sound like they do in-person. I would suggest possibly finding a 124 owner with aftermarket exhaust within a reasonable distance of you so you can go and hear it (hard to find this person/car I know), or visit some exhaust specialists and listen to some other similar cars with their exhausts on them, albeit they won't be 124's. Exhausts are one of those difficult choices that you really need to hear live and in-person to decide on...........or you just go with a specialists advice and hope you will like it. Best to actually have a drive/be driven in a car with an aftermarket exhaust because a car standing and being revved won't ever duplicate the sound of the car when being driven.
The non-resonated exhaust would be louder. I have the resonated version and it has a louder growl/rumble than the Abarth OEM (non-Record Monza) that came with my car. I find it "just right" in volume and one that doesn't piss off the local dogs and neighbors....As others have said above, however, the exhaust notes you find pleasing are much like affairs of the heart, and are highly subjective.....I think it is fair to say that the AR exhausts have a core of adherents but are not the only good ones....is the resonated or the NON resonated the most loud ? And is both ( res and non resonated) louder than a 124 spider abarth with original exhaust ?
I am lucky, my one neighbor is a Auto Tech (who works for Penske group, they painted the heritage stripe on ALL American units) My neighbor has 2003 Z28 with 800HP so he is no issueNeighbors need to be considered too. If they don’t like you, you’re giving them another reason! 😉
There is a funny thing that happens with the resonated exhaust. It is quieter at startup and lower speeds but not much different at cruising speed. The non-resonated seems to be louder at startup and acceleration but in my opinion, it seems quieter at cruising speeds (unless you are under throttle). My guess is less back pressure. Neither is overly loud and yes, both are louder than stock by a good margin.is the resonated or the NON resonated the most loud ? I love the Record Monza sound, but it is loud to others even when just ambling up the road. I've had comments from neighbours about mine when I start her up on a morning and my partner and son can hear me at the end of the street which is a good 300m away just trotting down to the house at 30mph. I also have people turning round and looking way ahead of me at 100m+ because it's audible from a distance.I had the original OEM (in North America it does not come with the Monza Record) and I found a little dull. I installed the Monza Record and I think it is great. They engineered it in a way that it will be loud if you want to; if you’re just cruising, the growl is pleasant - it goes noticed, but its not an act of aggression to everyone’s ears. And even when you decide to push it hard, it will be loud, but not to the point everyone will look at you and think you’re a stupid dick desperate for attention.
However, as the experienced people here said, it is of very personal taste and you’d better check in person.
Maybe I need to do the test with someone else driving my Draco… but it would be very hard to me to let anyone drive him.I love the Record Monza sound, but it is loud to others even when just ambling up the road. On another note......anyone else like to boot it when going through a tunnel or under a bridge?![]()
Give this a try on the valve.Maybe I need to do the test with someone else driving my Draco… but it would be very hard to me to let anyone drive him.
Or maybe it could be that from inside the car we don’t hear as much (I think I have read that feedback somewhere). I even disabled that “Bose AutoPilot” once to see if it would make some difference to no avail.
Or maybe I’m already used to the dickheads around here that have theirs much noisier then mine from start (to the point of irritating me, a person who likes noisy cars), that mine looks quieter in comparison; except the Porsches, they are way noisier, but they don’t sound like a desperate call for attention, When some of my many neighbours start one of their Porsches near mine, their sound muffles mine.
Or, on a last maybe… Maybe my Monza Record is not working as expected![]()
The valve on my exhaust is stuck closed and no way to budge it. If I force too hard I risk breaking it and then I will have a nice rattle inside the exhaust. When I have to replace the exhaust which will be another Record Monza I will remove the spring and wire the valve open. Even given the valve being stuck closed it's still as loud when toodling around town as it's WOT that really makes a difference with the valve being open.Or, on a last maybe… Maybe my Monza Record is not working as expected![]()
The record Monza is not as loud as everyone makes it out to be. Porsches by comparison are at least twice as loud in sport mode. The Jaguar F-Type R is super loud stock. Although it’s pretty glorious!Maybe I need to do the test with someone else driving my Draco… but it would be very hard to me to let anyone drive him.

I have never checked mine, it has been installed for 14,000 km now. I’ll take a look, it is pleasant and discrete when cruising or idle, but it does get loud when I push it, but not sure if as loud as intended to be. Nonetheless, it would be easier to compare if there were any other Spiders around here using. But I have never seen. The valve on my exhaust is stuck closed and no way to budge it. Maybe I will try the penetrant sharcohen has advised but I very much doubt mine will free up. Why in the hell Abarth created a lovely SS exhaust and put a CS valve in it.............Italians are not known for their organisational skills, but this comes down to design which they so often get right!![]()
