Has anyone replaced the 2 stock bulbs on the license plate? I check the the owner manual and it's seems to slide sideways to pull off. I don't want to break both license plate light covers. Like to get some input, before I go to the dealer to get bulbs replaced. Thanks!

Went to my local dealer and they figure a better way to get the license plates bulbs out. When you open the trunk, pull the clips from the trunk liner and remove it. Second, push out through the hole in the trunk outward to remove the light assembly and change the bulbs and then reverse the process. LED's bulbs look great and give a clean white appearance!

Did the clips break? Did everything go back together properly?

So many cars these days appear to be designed to be put together efficiently at factories but not to be worked on by customers.

No, not at all. they go back without breaking, Use a thin screwdriver to pry them off and should be OK.

I had no issues changing mine. I found that the portion of the light on the inside near the latch has a "hook" in it and you simply push them towards the outside of the car and gently pull downward from inside (trunk lid latch) part. It DOES take some finger strength to get them to work though.

Did you replace the interior trunk light as well? The light back there is so dim I usually grab my flashlight for assistance.

If I were to order the Phillips LED plate lights online, what is the part number or description? Would the trunk have the same bulb?

Chipshot, I hear you, but the Fiat clips are super easy to work with. You just pop the center part out with your fingernail or a small screwdriver. They go back in nicely.

Jim ...someone either here or on the Miata Forum suggested from Amazon, a rechargeable, LED, two row, motion sensor activated light, attached with velcro. I have one for my between the seats glove box and it works great!!! ....probably will get one for the trunk ....$10

Not yet, what I do is pull the bulb then go find an equivalent.
And I've noticed the same thing. I've got to look (and trace) the wiring to see if it would be a simple matter of wiring a strip of LED's inline. I don't think it's going to work if the on/off switch is the only activation for it.

The LP lights I got were Sylvania ZEVO's in a 194 base. They are plenty bright and light the area up just fine. I got my bulbs at the local parts store.

My next "small project" is replacing the B/U light with an LED and then I was thinking of doing the headlights with LED but am probably going to go with Phillips x-Treme Ultinon's in the fogs and then use Sylvania ZXE's in the hi/lo locations.

What I REALLY wish is someone would make a "strobe" unit that could plug in-line with the third brake light that would perform a function similar to this (which has programmable flash modes)

The spare flash unit I have will not work as it expects a 12v load coming in and apparently it's lower than that going to the third light.

Hello LongBeachJim, They are Philips 194 T10 127916000KB2 Vision LED 6000K bright white light for license plate and got them at Amazon. Regarding the trunk light, did not replace it yet. But, I"ll check with my local dealer soon.

Thanks for the part number! I'll definitely order one in so that I have one handy when the car gets delivered :)
