What is this dot on the front grill? Is that something I can get painted a different color without affecting some function?

That's the cover for the towing eye hole.

It's the tow hook cover. You can paint it any color you like.

On both sides of the grille, at the extreme left and right sides, there are stubby posts that protrude forward about an inch or so. What could those be?

Yeah, I wondered about those too. Seems unnecessary.

The piece with the red dot can easily be removed for painting or affixing a decal. One member suggested inserting a wooden Popsicle stick into the slot at the bottom to remove it. That works great and doesn't damage the plastic.
