I have had my Abarth for 2 weeks today, and I have only driven it about 800 miles. Today I had a jackass in a BMW tailgate me and rev his engine over and over in heavy traffic. Last week, I had two separate BMW's pull up next to me and try to get me to race!

BMW's really aren't all that special, especially here in New England. I think of them as being the Ford Escort of the halffulent... The things are everywhere, and they all look alike.

Is this a BMW thing?

My sister lived in Hawaii for a couple of years, she told me you were all pretty laid back... I guess they just don't want to bother!

Times I've had cars rushing up and tailgating me trying to get past, must be a 'look at that car', I've got to prove a point my cars faster and better. I just let them carry on, what do I have to prove, if it makes them feel good what the ****

I think it used to be BMW drivers, but now, I agree with Jeremy Clarkson, if you have car driving 2cm from your rear bumper these days, it's invariably an Audi.

I'll agree with the beef against BMWs. They tend to be driven by aggressive idiots.
However,Jetta drivers are even worse! BMW wannabes, they are. I'm always happy to have a rabbit in traffic to attract the cops, and if a BMW isn't there, you can count on a Jetta.
I just lay back and watch them get picked off.
Best regards
Pete

I have white trash in shifty, rusty trucks riding my ass. But even they are in front of me in a no passing zone, they are driving 10 miles an hour slower than the speed limit on there phones that are worth more than there cars. I would not judge the vehicle as much as the di--s driving them.

I have never had someone come up to me with the challenging revs in my Abarth. I do have the exhaust which may give it I bit of an intimidating sound. also, with my ever emerging flesh tone hair do they may be thinking don't mess with the old guy in the noisy car, he might actually know what he's doing, and may be fearful of the potential for humiliation. I have yet to see another 124 here in New Orleans, so maybe they just don't want to risk it....

It happens every time I get in the car.
Just today on the drive home from the office I Had 3. A Porsche Cayman, an Infiniti G 37, and a Infiniti Q 60.
If you want to race go find a track, leave me alone!

I also own a BMW 430i w/MSport Package and have had plenty of M3 and Mustangs wanting to get going, my age is wiser than the thrill. Also have a 2001 Hummer, befor GM got hold of them and never tail gate cause we are talking 3 to 3-1/2 to s to stop, takse alot more distance and not worth the risk.
So when I drive my Red Abarth, yes it bothers me especially since May when my 428i w/MSport was totaled, rear ended by DUI in a Ford Expedition.
"It's not the vehicle but the organic hunk of flesh controlling it."
Keep it real, keep it fun, but be safe for another day of pleasure in our 124 Abarth.

I never raced any of them... I stopped doing that kind of thing years ago. Oddly enough, two of the BMWs were driven by guys my age. (50's) you would think they'd know better!

We just ignore driver exhibiting such behavior. However, once I did have to put a kid back in his place at a stop light. The Pretty One and I were discussing dinner options when the kid decided to repeatedly let us and many others he spent his Taco Bell paycheck on a fart can exhaust. A simple turn in his direction and a raised index finger to the lips while mouthing Shuuuuuuush did the trick. The couple behind us saw the whole thing and got quite a good laugh from it.

Those unwanted invites to race is one of the reasons for me to install a 2ch dashcam sys. in the spider. When I lived in Europe it was "normal" to stop as close to the car in front as possible. I think it had to do with living in a small (The Netherlands) country and the rat race and I was sort of used to it.

Now I live in Canada and had a Ford Escape. Hardly anybody came close to kissing the bumber on that car and next to nothing of any other funny business. In general the majority of Canadian road users are well behaved. Untill I got the 124 SA

With the 124 SA it's differend. Close stops at traffic lights to read "124spider". Stalking me to get me to go faster, cutting me off to show they have more horse ( in a straight line, little to none corner handling, more horse usually equals higher gross weight) which is followed by slowing to 5 km under the speedlimit to get me to show me mine, last minute, or should I say, last second road crossing in front.

So I installed some reasurrance/insurance

Cheers, Matt

While I was in Toronto this week, I got complimented, even gazing, this guy asked me where was ABARTH built, I told him it's the little cousin of Ferrari, Alfa Romeo. No mention of FIAT.;)
But today while driving back on the 401, this young stud with a Mercedez(dark tinted window), came close a couple of times, I wasn't sure if it was a Disguised cop or what, seems he wanted to race or what

But came a point where left lane was slow and saw a good opening on the right lane, I showed him what my disguised EDL could do. I just lost him.>:)

Rarely is anyone behind me. Yeah, I drive too fast but it's hard not to in this car. People that drive up next to me at a light look over and see it's an old guy and leave me alone. I drive the care for me, not to impress someone in a ricer who overcompensates with a giant spoiler.

During my test drive of the Fiat 124 that I eventually bought, I'm getting off the expressway and a BMW coupe came from no where tailgating me seconds before the stop. As I slow up first at the light, he comes around to the left and begins revving up. This encounter actually added another reason I bought the my 124! In my Mercedes, no one ever does that and probably think of them as old Man cars but those old men cars have naturally aspirated 6s with great midrange and 155mph limits. I didn't race that BMW on test drive day (thought better about that 1/2 mile from dealership) and saw it as gaining "street cred". In life, a few things are guaranteed. Since it's mentioned in this thread... VW and BMW nuts driving crazy are two of them.

Here in the Detroit area, its the guys in F150's, Dodge Rams and Chevy Silverados. For some reason, the addition of a Detroit Red Wings sticker and a Magnaflow exhaust makes them think they are running at LeMans. They dodge in an out of cars on the freeways and I pass tons of them on their roofs in the winter months.

I was sitting at a light earlier this summer in my C6 Corvette and some guy pulled up next to me in a Dodge Ram with this giant smoke stack sticking out of the bed wanting to run. We took off (not condoning street racing) and his truck blew black smoke everywhere. He had me for about two feet and then he received a good trouncing. We got to the next light and he looked over and said "I thought I could take you...". I guess these guys never had a physics class in high school.
