Also you cannot swap cards between vehicles once the card VIN locks to your car, which happens after you've driven with the card inserted for 100km. And, as folks have said...going for an aftermarket card is a true crapshoot. Naviextras has cracked down on those cards, and many folks have received a counterfeit notice from the update toolbox software. Once that happens, you will not be able to update the card to the latest maps.Oh, okay, that would explain why I can't find one on ebay or Amazon.
Man, I'm disappointed, had hoped to use the one from my 2017 in my 2020.
Yup, the cards are VIN locked, so swapping them between vehicles is a definite no-go. You can likely imagine a big part of that reasoning is to prevent fraudulent card copying. And as noted by some others, it appears that the folks that were selling the knock-offs on eBay are no longer in business as somehow Naviextras has found a way to identify them and ensure they can never be updated. My rampant speculation is that the cards have the equivalent of a serial number buried someone in their content and now Naviextras checks to see if more than one VIN is attached to a given serial number. If they find more than one, they all get banned as fraudulent.Oh, okay, that would explain why I can't find one on ebay or Amazon.

It will likely work perfectly fine for decades. You just won't ever be able to update the map content. It's only when you attempt to update it via NaviExtras that it's identified as a knock-off and blocked from accessing new data. But the card itself will continue to work fine in your vehicle with whatever map content was on it when you bought it.Are they still available on eBay for 18 bucks. That’s where I got mine. I never did the update, but it still works fine.
You still can buy these cloned SD Cards, but prices went up - $59.99 (MSRP:$449.95)It will likely work perfectly fine for decades. You just won't ever be able to update the map content. " The SD card can be used only in one car, once it is installed to the navigation system for the first time, it will be locked with cars VIN. Navigation system SD cards cannot be used/switched from one vehicle to another. Item is unused & guaranteed to work. Part Number: TD2K66EZ1 USA / Canada / Mexico. "
Thanks Scorpius, this is helpful once again.Someone bought a card from Navkings and tried to update it, got an error message from the toolbox saying that the card is fraudulent, and it refused to update it.
