Hard on spark plugs

It seems that the multi air engine is very hard on spark plugs.

Yesterday, we did the annual service. Amongst other things, I instructed my mechanic to check the spark plugs. Last changed in 2022. So after 3 years and 2000 km, they needed to be replaced.

We checked the timing belt which was replaced together with the water pump and tensioner in 2021. Still in perfect condition after 4 years and 2800km.

Regarding the engine filter (changed in 2020), it was taken out. No sign of iron filings. Cleaned with brake cleaner, some thread tape and back in its place.

AOS was taken out and cleaned together with the pcv valve.

Other then the spark plugs, engine oil and filter, everything was perfect.

Those are not NGK Laser Iridium SIKR9A7, which are the plugs spec'd for use in the car. Regardless if the plugs need to be changed after only 2000 km of use, you have a bigger problem. Or was that a typo, and you meant you put 20,000 km on them? If it's 20,000 km, then that's about half the normal duration they specify, but they do state that you should change them every three years regardless of how many kilometers you put on them. Personally, I swap mine out every 25,000 km... or 3 years... whichever comes first. If you're running a tune, then they're obviously gapped tighter and will wear faster as well.

Here's the link to a great article on this website that speaks to plug specs. https://www.124spider.org/threads/spark-plugs-they-are-not-all-the-same.43865/

2000km is a very short interval. The pics are blurry so we can’t tell. Denso is a reputable manufacturer, but if I can get the exact item specified, that’s what I use. NGK is an EU brand and ought to be very easy to find. I don’t argue with the engineers.

Wrong plugs were used. The OEM plug, which there is virtually no flexibility on, is NGK SIKR9A7. People have tried alternatives and nothing works as well.

And no, you can't say "But they worked fine", because they didn't - they only lasted 2000 km.

It looks like you replaced the old wrong plugs with new wrong plugs. Those need to come out promptly and be replaced with the correct ones.

It is a 100% requirement on this engine to use the NGK SIKR9A7. The NGK will last you 50000 km.

(EDIT: Even if you meant 20,000 km not 2,000, that's still too early. Put in the correct plugs!)

These guys are legit.

Since Brexit, we are experiencing huge difficulties purchasing staff online from the UK. Much more expensive and takes ages to arrive
Coincidentally, we in the US are having the same problem with the entire rest of the world! Fancy that!
