How to Download a (Free) Bigger, Better Owner's Manual For Your 124 Spider

Did the hunt and found both versions in .pdf back in 2017 via the Fiat Canada portal.

But more relevent, here's a link to a thread here on the forum posted by @Scorpius in Oct. of 2021 with links to the .pdf versions of pretty much all the model years and their associated manuals. Digital owner's manuals for Fiat 124 Spider 2017+ Those links should work just fine for folks outside the US as well, since they're not tied to the Fiat US portal.

Ok, that one I knew....I thought the reference was for the little VIN compartment in the floor.

Yup... that's what I was thinking as well. And I scrolled through every page in the manual looking for it. lol I did find one page that talked about VIN identification locations, but no mention of the magic floor location.

I'm still looking for a owners/operators PAPER manual for my 2017 Lusso. I have a French version because mine was a Quebec car. Me no speak dat.
If anyone has one to sell?
I found some listed on eBay, but they were wanting over $120 CAD for used copies... more for new ones. The only version that I can see in stock and for sale on MOPAR Tech Authority is for the 2017 Abarth model. They do however have stock of the 2018 model version, and I believe they would be identical to your vehicle's manual, with the exception of the name of the year itself. They're $40 USD plus whatever they would charge for shipping. Here's the link: https://www.techauthority.com/en-us/products/?year=2018&model=949&type=3

Thanks for that CDPond, I never thought of searching for a 2018 manual. I might go that route. You are probably correct, there is little difference from 2017 to the 2018 owners Manual.
I'd be surprised if there was any difference between 2017 to 2020 versions of the manual, other than the year on the cover. I think you'd be perfectly good to go with a 2018 version from either your dealer or MOPAR Tech authority, and it's still considerably less than buying a copy off eBay. (I "think" the dealers get their documentation via MOPAR TA, but if you buy it from the dealer and the price is the same for the book itself, you'd at least save the cost of shipping from the MOPAR TA folks). So riding on Taz's recommendation, order the 2018 version of the operating manual via your dealership, and you'll save around $40 in shipping fees by doing so.

You are probably correct on that. However, I am a stickler for being fussy. I gotta think about it. I could always buy the correct 2017 manual with the cover etc on Ebay and try to sell my French version on Ebay....to ofset. I imagine Ebay might have a better chance of selling the French Manual than I would.
Maybe, certainly worth a shot. The challenge being that the French language market would be considerably smaller. But it won't cost you anything to list it on eBay, but when you sell it, I think you will need to pay eBay a commission fee that's a percentage of the sale price. That said, still a better location to list it than on Kijiji or FB Marketplace. Worst case scenario, you could check with a local printing services shop to see what they'd charge you to print and bind the .pdf version for you (likely more than the cost of purchasing it off eBay, but worth a shot if you happen to be near a Staples).

Yes, I might consider a print out owner's manual but only if an original was not available. It's about the total car original package for me. My Lusso came used with some funky wheels which I just hated. It made the car look like an older good looking women who wears a needless and over the top amount of makeup. :) ARRAH! I was very very lucky to find a fellow on this site who had a mint set of original wheels and shipped to me. Bliss!
Now, I see there is some supposed "Factory Service Manuals" on EBay. 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Shop Service Repair Manual CD Classica Lusso Abarth 1.4L | eBay
I don't know what might be in this CD service manual or how many pages etc. Has anyone here purchased one of these?
If you head over to the MOPAR Tech Authority site, you'll see it listed... but out of stock. I have the USB version of it. It's hard coded to work with Internet Explorer, which Microsoft has now given the kiss of death... so for longer term use, you'd need an old laptop or desktop that still runs with a version of IE on it. I anticipate that in the near future Microsoft will issue an OS update that purges IE from Win 10 builds. So if you do go that route, you'll want to air gap the device you plan on using to read the CD.

The contents aren't a .pdf, but rather interactive HTML... for all intents, a huge interlinked series of html pages. It's a handy thing to own if you intend on keeping the vehicle for the long haul, and I purchased both the service and electrical manuals such that I'd have something I could use with any shop doing work on the vehicle in the years to come. But it's not an operating manual. If you do decide to buy it, also consider getting the electrical system version of it as well.... it would be described as "Wiring Info".

Thanks for that info. The CD in my link is from 2017. and I have an old laptop with Explorer on it, do you think I could "print" pages from the CD in legible text?
BTW I bought one of the 2017 owner's manuals from Ebay should have it in early Jan
You can print them in a variety of ways. One is to drag-select the content from the page, then copy and paste it into a Word doc and do a little formatting. Or, you can do a screen capture and print that. Or you can print the current page you're viewing. BUT, the key thing to remember is that the content is not formatted like an ePub document. They're just hyperlinked html pages. So one might only be a couple of paragraphs with no images, whereas another page might be the equivalent of four or five regular pages in length with a multitude of images. Regardless, there are a multitude of ways you can print the content to take with you for use in your shop.

I do things in a couple of ways with mine. If' it's something relatively simple, I just print out a hard copy to take with me to the garage when I'm working on the car. If it's something that's a bit more complicated and I think I may have to look up other information, I just drag out an old laptop and view the content on it. Additionally, with the version you're thinking about buying, you should be able to just copy the full content of the CD onto your computer hard drive, and not even have to worry about having a CD drive in the device you're using to access the content. That also means you can tuck the CD in a safe place in case you ever need to reload the content to your local hard drive. That works with some of the manuals, but not all. I've got an electrical manual that forces me to have the original USB stick I bought from MOPAR TA inserted in the PC before it will let me open the content. Without it, the content is encrypted and can't be viewed. Since their protection scheme is kind of all over the map in regards to where it's used and with what content, you just have to try the disc your purchase. It's simply convenient to have it on the hard drive. Worst case scanario, you have to read it from the CD all the time.

But, back to your original question, yes, you'll have no problem printing out content if you need to do so.

If your plan is to print it, just download the free .pdf file and print it. Simple.
We were talking about the Service Manual and Wiring Manuals, not the operating or owner's manual. There is no free .pdf that you can download and print for the manuals I just mentioned. If you know of some version that's been translated from html to .pdf, let us know as I'm sure many would be interested. But to clarify... we were talking about the Service and Wiring manuals that were normally sourced via MOPAR TA.

@Tazilon Brenner Yes, I can now see how that might have been confusing. I was suggesting using a service bureau to print the .pdf simply for convenience and having it bound as a book, as it's often less expensive than the cost of paper and toner/ink to print a large document at home. As you noted, he could easily also print it himself if he chose to do so.

But here's where the confusion came into play. If you continue to read what @Tigercub wrote after that in his post (which you excluded from your cut and paste above), you'll see he then asked a couple of questions about the factory service manual that he found in CD format on eBay (MOPAR TA used to sell them in both USB stick and CD format). Here's a repeat of what he wrote (the blue text is what you included and the portion in red text is the bit you missed in his post):

"Yes, I might consider a print out owner's manual but only if an original was not available. It's about the total car original package for me. I had purchased the Service Manual from MOPAR TA, and was responding to his questions in regards to that specific manual and how it was formatted, able to be printed, etc. That was what was being discussed in the three posts we exchanged after that. In fairness, he did mention he found and purchased an OEM copy of the Owner Manual off eBay as well. He'd stated that he really didn't want to print out a copy of the owner's manual if he could find an original.

I wasn't trying to confuse you, and I was being completely forthright when I said if you'd come across a .pdf version of the Service Manual that folks would be interested (me included). There are few model years for which it can still be purchased, and they're hard coded to use Internet Explorer as the browser tool to open them. In fact, the versions of the Service and Wriing manuals for later model years are encrypted so you have to open them from the USB stick or CD they were purchased on. Hence the conversation about having an old PC or laptop around that could be used to retain a working version of IE now that Microsoft has given the old browser the kiss of death. If there was a .pdf that had been created from those manuals, that would get past the concerns with needing IE to access the content. Better still, they could be copied to a local drive, and even printed out.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, and I won't belabour the point further. Have a great Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

A pet peeve (though the information is available elsewhere) is that the manual does not include wiper blade size.
In general, I find the Spider's manual does as good a job as any of complicating what should be fairly simple things.
Truer words never spoken. I also find it interesting in that parts of it are also pure fiction. Descriptions of systems/components/functionality that doesn't exist. It seems like when they made the manual, they let someone have a go at editing the Mazda version over a weekend, and that's what we ended up with. Then again, I compare that to the manual for my Kia Telluride. That document is four times as large and you still can't find what you're looking for when you need it. Thank God for owner forums.
