@Tazilon Brenner Yes, I can now see how that might have been confusing. I was suggesting using a service bureau to print the .pdf simply for convenience and having it bound as a book, as it's often less expensive than the cost of paper and toner/ink to print a large document at home. As you noted, he could easily also print it himself if he chose to do so.
But here's where the confusion came into play. If you continue to read what
@Tigercub wrote after that in his post (which you excluded from your cut and paste above), you'll see he then asked a couple of questions about the factory service manual that he found in CD format on eBay (MOPAR TA used to sell them in both USB stick and CD format). Here's a repeat of what he wrote (the
blue text is what you included and the portion in
red text is the bit you missed in his post):
"Yes, I might consider a print out owner's manual but only if an original was not available. It's about the total car original package for me. My Lusso came used with some funky wheels which I just hated. It made the car look like an older good looking women who wears a needless and over the top amount of makeup.
ARRAH! I was very very lucky to find a fellow on this site who had a mint set of original wheels and shipped to me. Bliss!
Now, I see there is some supposed "Factory Service Manuals" on EBay. 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Shop Service Repair Manual CD Classica Lusso Abarth 1.4L | eBay
I don't know what might be in this CD service manual or how many pages etc. Has anyone here purchased one of these?"
I had purchased the Service Manual from MOPAR TA, and was responding to his questions in regards to that specific manual and how it was formatted, able to be printed, etc. That was what was being discussed in the three posts we exchanged after that. In fairness, he did mention he found and purchased an OEM copy of the Owner Manual off eBay as well. He'd stated that he really didn't want to print out a copy of the owner's manual if he could find an original.
I wasn't trying to confuse you, and I was being completely forthright when I said if you'd come across a .pdf version of the Service Manual that folks would be interested (me included). There are few model years for which it can still be purchased, and they're hard coded to use Internet Explorer as the browser tool to open them. In fact, the versions of the Service and Wriing manuals for later model years are encrypted so you have to open them from the USB stick or CD they were purchased on. Hence the conversation about having an old PC or laptop around that could be used to retain a working version of IE now that Microsoft has given the old browser the kiss of death. If there was a .pdf that had been created from those manuals, that would get past the concerns with needing IE to access the content. Better still, they could be copied to a local drive, and even printed out.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, and I won't belabour the point further. Have a great Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
