I have a 2018 Abarth Spider with the stock exhaust. I am looking to upgrade the exhaust system. I know this car isn't even close to a Ferrari, but I would like to install the system that comes closest to mimicking the classis Ferrari sound. I prefer the Ferrari sound over a Viper, and for you bike guys prefer the Ducati sound over a Harley. So, Record Monza? Magnaflow? Something else? Or, keep it stock?

Not a chance. Ferrari ran a V12 or V8 with a relatively high redline so that sound can't be mimicked by an inline 4 with only a 6,500 RPM redline. However, that said the Record Monza exhaust is a nice improvement and there are several after market exhausts you should check out. Search this site for the threads discussing them. Just my $.02. Good luck.

Yes, I know this car will never sound like a 330 GTC. It would be impossible given the reasons you stated. Just looking for whatever might come as close as I can get to that classic sound. Thank You for the suggestions, and I welcome all the suggestions and opinions on this that I can get!

From personal experience - Monza has awesome metallic/sportbikish sound. Really nice sound. But in search for power I swapped it to Good-win racing set of cross, mid and exhaust ( resonated) and it sound nice and deep, but not as cool as monza( but gives more torque), today I got sport cat installed and oh my... I love new sound... Not monza, but as cool, different, nice rolling rumble notes. I would say it sound a bit like Subaru ☺
I guess I would love catless, but I was not sure about the smell..

So shortly Monza will be cheaper, full Good win set with sport cat expensive alternative with extra power if tuned

I agree you can't make it sound like a Ferrari, but the Record Monza does sound good.

For the ultimate, you can put the Record Monza on the back of the GWR (the original roadster GWR) and downpipe which is what I've done - best of both worlds 😁

Or perhaps add the Record Monza and the new EC cross pipe for an easier install and more power?

I did the latter combo and love it!

If you choose to go the Record Monza route just know that at least for the moment they are, and have been, unavailable new unless you can find a dealership that happens to have one on the shelf. However you may have luck shopping used as leased spiders at at or near the return point and I expect those owners would remove the RM and return the car with the stock exhaust. That's how I found mine. It was on Facebook classifieds.

Hi....."James Watt" and steam is where my enthusiasm begins with the "Otto" cycle then "Gas Turbines", Supercharges, Twin Turbos and "Good-Win" exhaust systems........so what I am about to suggest sickens me..........."I Hear"..."they" have now invented an exhaust system sound to go with your new fangled "Milk Float" Electric Vehicle, as the folk investing in these things want some noise rather than points for how many pedestrians they can knock down before anyone notices them ! Maybe.......However this device is presented you could buy one, tune it to "Ferrari" sound and plug & play...............Until you see sense and buy your Good-Win System One. Cheers

The Ferrari engine or exhaust is music to the ears. I can hear it from far when $$$$$$ound is coming my way, It will take all the glamor my exhaust has when they're close to my spider. So focus on a good exhaust for the spider that will please your ears.
Take the 500 Abarth and the 124 Abarth, same engine but not same exhaust. I find the 500 Abarth sound too metalic sound and plus the length of the exhaust from engine to rear of car is not same length. That's why you have different length of trumpets and give different sounds.
But I came close to the Horns. LOL
Conclusion go on youtube and pick an exhaust that will please your ears.

As far as I know only the EC crosspipe will connect to the stock midpipe. We have not test fit it on an automatic car.

Also, I don't think any aftermarket mid pipe will connect to the Record Monza, and if it does it would have a 2.5 down to 2.0 inch transition, which wouldn't work very well.

I've connected the GWR roadster to the Record Monza. Like Greg says it does have to go from 2.5 to 2 inch. No adapter is needed, it's not pretty but it does work, doesn't leak and sounds amazing.

That's going to hurt flow, but if you are happy with it due to other factors, like sound, then it's fine.

Greg, it looks like you have sold a crossover pipe to me as soon as one is available for an automatic transmission. Where the ones you made sold out so quickly, I am sure there is a market for more. I will keep an eye on the Eurocompulsion website, and have already sent a message there. In the meantime I will search for a Record Monza - time may be on my side as I live in Maine and sadly put the car up for the winter due to the corrosive chemicals that are used on the roads here.

Hi Steve, thanks. Yes they sold out quickly, so we have already ordered another four. We should have them in a couple weeks. I'll need to get an automatic car here for test fitting. We are actually thinking about adding an automatic 124 to our fleet for transmission tuning work.

The Record Monzas are hard to get, I'm working on that too. We think we will have them in stock by the middle of October.

Maybe the sound, at least the look:

...of a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" at https://wearecurated.com/wp-content/uploads/Ferrari-Daytona-Hardtop-29-of-55.jpg . But they took that down, and I neglected to copy it or save it to web.archive.org. Though Google indexed it:

Here's what I believe to be the same car:

And finally, here's another of theirs that I might have rather referenced in the first place:

From Magneti Marelli Distributor Restoration (Cavallino magazine 195):
Later Ferraris used Ansa exhausts as standard equipment and Ansa addressed sound control quite thoroughly with their use of the baloney cut and the addition of a resonator built into each tip of the exhaust. These parts of the Ansa exhaust design were responsible for the very refined and well tuned exhaust note typical of the later Ferraris.

. Yup, had the Ansa exhausts on my 71 124 Spider, my 74 124 Sport Coupe and my 76 124 Spider also, and Yes! Sounded awesome and the free flow exhaust helped the power too! I ended up with a RM for my new Spider, will get an EC crosspipe too. But admittedly, I'd love it if Ansa made a new exhaust system to fit our cars, complete with the black crackle paint, red stripe, and chrome tips with the Ansa decal! Now, my question is, where did those Ansa decals come from that appear to be on the chrome tips of a new Abarth 124 Spider? s.

FWIW, I vaguely remember reading (a few years ago) that Ferrari acutally worked on the sound profile part of the design for the Record Monza exhaust system. It's a bit of a contentious item here on the forum, but I'm a firm believer that the RM is THE exhaust upgrade for the Spider. Many others with agree, and there's another camp that likes the sound of a 3rd party system better. All I know is that whenever I fire up the Spider, the sound attracts attention, and not just because of decibles.

But back to the OP in this thread, if you want a Ferrari sound, why not go with the product they actually helped design?

Because as far as anyone can tell, you can't actually buy that product any longer?

Sounds like a four cylinder revving to the moon! Sure with enough mods for reliable rpm the spider would sound better! Only thing is I’m sure you would have to remove the turbo as it would likely create a blockage. At that point might as well put the 2.4l multiair engine in, I think it would be a beast done right for a NA version of the spider.
