Looks like this guy managed to stuff a 1752 in there. Video doesn't have a whole lot of tech info but I guess it's pretty much doable by now? At least for the experts?
That's my car. I'm no expert and I did it in the driveway. It's "semi" plug and play. OEM manifold works and the OEM downpipe mates up just fine but new 3 new lines need to be made, the BOV needs to be adapted and the intake needs to be modified for the larger turbo inlet. I put it on just to fill the gap in performance between the 124 and my old 500. It's not my first choice nor what I will be keeping on the car.

Modifying the intake is as simple as replacing the elbow that goes to the turbo with a larger elbow and a fitting adaptor for the line 3/4" hard line that connects.

The lines are super easy. You can order the lines/fittings you need online from ATP directly. I had one of the ATP lines already but I made the coolant lines. They're easy to make. You just need the fittings, some braided line and a little oil for lube and 2 box wrenches.

The BOV is the most "complicated" part. I used a Forge BOV "creatively" attached to the turbo with a silicon hose. The ONLY reason I have the Forge is for the convenient actuator that uses the OEM DV connector to actuate... this makes the ECU happy. This works with clean AFR's and a very healthy boost in power on the stock tune. It works even better with the dyno tune I had done at Tork Motorsports (even though the tune was set for the OEM turbo).

On the stock tune, the 1752 is drastically more powerful than the version of the GPop turbo I have experienced BUT if it's ease of install, a GPop (or any other stuffed/ported turbo option) is hard to beat. All that said, I'm sure a heavily stuffed turbo could match the performance of the GT1752. Tied with ease of install that comes with a stuffed unit, I'd call that the perfect option for these cars if you are keeping the engine internally stock.

I’m hopeful that this thread means EC are seriously looking into providing a bigger turbo kit for our beautiful 124 Spiders – exciting times!

I was browsing around the Internet looking at other options. If the Alfa MiTO 1.4 TB MutiAir is the same engine as the Fiat 124 Spider then a Danish company “Alfastumper” seem to be advertising a couple of Turbo upgrade kits at the moment, the most powerful being:

265 hp / at 5600 rpm
348 Nm v. 4200 rpm
http://www.alfastumper.com/product_info.php?cPath=270_129_136&products_id=1711

No idea what you get (I don’t speak Danish), or the customer support, but thought it might be useful addition to this thread.

I’ll be waiting for the EC bigger turbo kit - hopeful not that long…. :)

We have what we think is a really nice solution. It's currently on our 500 Abarth, I'll give out a few details:

1. It's true plug and play, absolutely no changes needed to diverter valve mounts, hoses, or anything else.
2. It pulls hard from low RPM. With the stock tune on the car it develops 17psi by 2500rpm. So that's about identical to the stock unit.
3. It has more high end potential. Even with the stock tune on it we are seeing 10-15 more horsepower on the dyno.

I think it's going to be a perfect solution for the typical 124 enthusiast. I know I really like it.

Want.

Greg: This sounds an absolutely perfect addition to our beautiful cars; no changes to install the turbo, no change in lag and more power (even on stock tune). Great job, I’m really looking forward to updating my spider with this turbo. I’m certain this will make lots of 124 enthusiasts even happier with the performance of their stunning cars.

Can I guess..........a hybrid 1446 ???
Of course you can guess.

I can't say much now, but I think this will be out pretty soon. The fact that it doesn't require any special tune and works well with our existing tunes means we can release it pretty soon. This is totally different from the 1752, or other options out there that absolutely need a special tune to achieve any gains.

Turbos are a specialized area of knowledge, and although my team and I are fairly knowledgeable on these topics, we brought in a heavy hitter to help develop this turbo, and it was worth it.

Hope it’s ATP, I live 10 miles from them LOL.

What about twin scroll turbo options for our car? Besides things like custom manifolds, price, etc, has anyone tried one on the 1.4 Multiair? Or is the hassle just not worth it? It just crossed my mind because I was looking at the benefits of twin scroll turbos and was wondering if anyone was crazy enough to have already crossed this path lol.

I am not sure if anyone has done that, but maybe Eddie's 500 Turbo had one, I don't remember. Personally, I don't plan to do it. There is a cost and effort vs. benefit ratio that just doesn't work out.

My 500T had a TD05H S16G which is a "single" scroll.

I agree with Greg. The cost to make that happen would be up there and besides, modern BB turbos are pretty good at getting to peak boost pretty early.

If you go read some of the other Fiat forums, I think you could make a fair guess who Greg's secret weapon is...:)

Maybe, I am not above recognizing that there are others who know a lot more about certain things than I do. While my knowledge of the inner workings of turbos is at least OK, there are people who really specialize in this area. It just made a lot of sense to bring in an outside expert for this project.

I'll bet there are a lot of Miata owners that will be kicking themselves pretty hard for not getting the 124 when they see how much power we're making for such low cost. Those guys are spending thousands to get 180whp.
