Possible "better" cup holder for our Spiders?

Yes, but have you seen what MOPAR charges for a replacement cup holder? Or replacement rings for the top of them? It's insane. But if it held a beverage decently (unlike the stock ones), I'd seriously consider it as an alternative. I like my vente lattes from $tarbuck$, and when I'm in the Spider, that is not a beverage option. You also have to remember, I'm the idiot that bought the red bezel replacements for my air vents. lol

I use the stock cup holders for my Starbucks iced coffees and quad lattes all the time, they work fine. (for me anyway) I do put a folded paper towel in the bottom of them to absorb the sweat from the iced coffees.

The cup holders are funny looking, and I wouldn't want to buy them, but they work okay.

I also bought the red air vents with no regrets, they look great with my red and black seats.

My only cup holder related complaint is about the hole where the cup holder mounts on the right front of the console. It is unfinished, uncovered, and unsightly. I don't know why they didn't include a spring loaded cover like they did for the rear mounting holes.

Ok, now you have aroused my curiosity, lets see what you hear from the folks in the UK

I think its just a cup that fits our holders. I don't think its supposed to supplant them.

I have still not been able to successfully print his 3-D model, but upgrading to a 64-bit OS recently has seriously limited my editing software choices.

That cup ring looks interesting. Wonder if it's an extension or it fits INSIDE the cup holder. (An extension might just keep my from bashing my funny bone every time I go to turn up the radio with the knob...)

I agree with your assessment, but this is the last line in the detailed description that made me wonder: The cup needs to be inserted into the cup holder - Part Number: 71807617. Now that's either a "Homer Simpson" duh comment, or they're inferring it's an insert component. It could go either way.

With a wide open top like that, who would drive with that thing full of any liquid and have it sitting in the beverage holder sloshing around? I honestly don't know, hence why I sent them an email to get a clarification. One thing for sure, for the price they're asking, if its just a mug, I'm not buying. :)

So, some clarifications. First, I love my red vent bezel replacements as well. I also had a custom red Abarth logo insert made for my Cravenspeed shift knob as well.

My point in my reply to Jetlag is that I don't mind spending crazy money on small things if I like them. Personally, I find the stock cup holders bloody flimsy. They're not all enough, and they don't firmly grip anything. I also find they're useless when it comes to the size of some bottled water containers, as they're too small diameter to hold the bottles (think PowerAid type bottles). I don't use the mount position located between the seat backs, as I'm not a contortionist, and I don't want my elbows going into things while I'm driving. lol So I use the front position off to the passenger side of the centre console.

With any large (tall) beverages, I find they rock back and forth in that flimsy contraption, and I've had a couple of near misses. I prefer to focus on the freeway and not trying to do a mad grab to keep a coffee from spilling on my floor or seats. It's not worth dying for. The 3D printed version someone was working on here is nice enough, but not really my cup of tea, and I'm uncertain if it would be an order of magnitude difference in functionality over the stock version. So before I fire up the plasma cutter and mig welder to fabricate a metal replacement, I'm hoping this thing from the UK might do the trick. I've sent the retailer an email requesting clarification on whether its a big aluminum cup, or if it's an insert to replace the chrome ring on the stock holder. Once I hear back from them, I'll post their reply here in case anyone is interested. It might be a big cup, but given that it's solid aluminum, I'm thinking that's unlikely. That might be okay for cool beverages, but a hot one (coffee or tea) would be painful. Till later...

Okay, I'm officially declaring this thread dead. After several attempts to get a response by email from the UK seller of the project, I tackled Abarth UK Customer Care. They merely redirected the query to Canadian Fiat Customer Care (I think I've mentioned previously that this name is an oxymoron). I got a call from Canadian FCC, and I;ll paraphrase their responses as follows (it was a sad and pathetic phone conversation):
a) we got this request forwarded to us from our counterparts in the UK
b) I can't get it for you
c) no, I haven't looked at the URL you provided, but I'm sure we don't have it
d) okay, I'm looking at the ad (reads the ad description to me)... I then explain politely that I'm able to read too
e) okay, I can see how that wouldn't work very well as an actual cup, so maybe you're right

At this point, I gave up. I could go through corporate again with a

surface/air mail letter with signature required, but it's not worth the battle. Suffice it to say, the hunt for a secure cup holder continues, as this thing can't be sourced (at least on this side of the pond).

C'est la guerre... lol

I WOULD SAY CONSCRIPTION.
COUNT ME OUT>:)>:) Due to retired and above all on vacation.:laugh:

Yeah, I only use the mount in the passenger side of the console up near the dash. I'm not limber enough to reach around behind me to use them in the location between the seat backs. lol It's just a poor piece of engineering. The thing doesn't have enough grip to really hold anything snugly, it's undersized so you can't fit a normal sized bottle of water in it, and anything that does fit in it flops around like a dead fish.
